An FRS would be a more accurate comparison. $5k less than a BRZ. Plus don't forget inflation and increased cost of materials. I would argue that's closely priced as to what a modern day AE86 would be. They sticker priced around 10-11k. In 1985.
where did you bring your car to get the "cheap gas" assesment? I had almost the exact same situation.
Morrie's Brooklyn Park and http://www.mnsubaru.com/threads/02-wrx-bad-compression-worth-fixing-shop-estimates.26406/ (sorry for the hijack) I actually never found out what was wrong with the car, traded in on an 09 WRX. I thought hearing "cheap gas" from the dealer was absurd. Has anyone with a Honda been told that was the reason for a failure? For the guys here who know their stuff and aren't afraid to break and fix things, it's a great platform. Subaru seems to need a lot of "excuses" otherwise. I think if you are going to the park with 4 dogs, downhill, with a CVT, and marginal mileage, it's a great car. Seriously when did they stop racing again? Performance I think is going out of focus for them. They tried in 2008 to slow it down and maybe got too much resistance. I warned you that my "forgive Subaru" therapy is not done yet.
Please explain how releasing an all new lightweight rwd sports car, "performance" is going out of focus?
Yeah, they developed a chassis for a RWD sports car that is considered by most outlets to be an extremely good budget sports car, and somehow they don't care about performance.
Nope, and they're not building a higher spec BRZ either. In 2015, the BRZ will be repurposed as a station wagon, and it'll come with a humidor for keeping your granola crisp, and they redesigned the rear area so that two 250-300lb bull-dykes can go down on eachother without banging their heads on the arm rests. It'll also come standard with a roof storage box and a doggy divider. Neither of which can be removed. Rachel Maddow will be the spokesperson for it.
And in the commercial, they will sarcastically talk about their racing heritage as Rachel "races" to a local hiking path. And when she "wins" the "race" her reward is she will get to kiss Rosie O'Donnell deeply with tongue while they are pressed against the side of it.
IIRC the last two posters no longer drive Subaru? Forgive me again for posting rumors but the "new" WRX is going from what was going to be a specialized, dedicated platform, to another Impreza. The "new" might be because of emissions standards and who knows what else. (P.S. I will probably buy another Subaru someday)
I still have two Subarus, try again. And I see and deal with more Subarus in a day than you could dream about.
Yes, I'm aware of your expertise, you guys and your knowledge are why this forum is so good. I am probably exaggerating the concerns about the BRZ motor. The CSG Mike postings, noting how marketing says "room for extra wheels on your track days" but then if you actually use the car and it breaks you are out of luck. I will re-state that the warranty documentation mentions this and the guy has no right to make a legal claim. I think the BRZ is awesome, I am AE86 fan and the BRZ power was set accordingly as you say. I also agree with readymix that maybe it fit the Scion line better. I think it's great that Subaru is making this stuff, when I say "performance" that also includes the quality and reliability to back it up. Being so interested in the new WRX, and hearing about problems and a lot of compromises, I have lost some enthusiasm. /rant
Look at you. You'll fit in here fine. Take notes noobs, this is how you handle an assult from upper echelon members.
