I think its about time for an update! Pulled the motor out to weld up the motor mounts, new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, transmission number 4, 4 pot 2 pots, godspeed trailing arms, solid pitch mount, braided clutch line, braided brake lines, going to add a catch can and FINALLY a manual boost controller so i can run more than 7 psi!
Bonus pic of the trans drain plug from the latest transmission, and another new to me 91 turbo legacy!
Long overdue for an update i suppose, After i had the motor all out, the wiring for the knock sensor, crank position and cam position sensors completely disintegrated and the car would not start. So a few weeks ago i started the long process of taking the whole dash and engine harness out of the black car (because the wires had not disintegrated) and swapping it into the red one.
Here are some pics of that fun mess, I also cleaned out the heater box, and gutted the one for the AC (because racecar), I also removed the dead mouse that was inside there, as well as finishing scraping all the sound deadening off the floor, so thats why the floor is all painted black.
I found some pretty uncommon JDM/EDM s1 Legacy turn signals. So those are all wired up and in now as well.
And a small tribute to the black car, which so generously donated its soul for my project. 277k miles on the engine and trans! Bonus pic of what I believe to be the fuel lines and wiring that goes to the fuel pump (And all that dust and dirt that came inside the car from the rust holes)
Soon I will be getting another turbo legacy for a black interior donor. So thats currently what im waiting on, I have black carpet from a 2005 WRX Limited that is ready to go in to match. I removed my power steering pump and rack because it leaked very very bad, looking to rebuild a 2.5rs rack and pump to put back on, also added a catch can and manual boost controller (generously donated by the black car) Also giving the engine a long overdue cleaning and re-intake gasketing there was power steering fluid EVERYWHERE. (if i parked the car on flat ground overnight with a full reservoir it would leave two different 12inch puddles)
Random bump, Are the last 15 pictures in this thread gone? I sure do not see them. Might as well do an update. Its still all apart, currently used as a shelf, my garage is a mess and its really cold. Lots of construction going on. Soon it will be much much better, but for now we are stalled out on the project. Got some goodies and some plans for it hopefully when the seasonal depression says goodbye. ..
You can fix them, I upload mine to imgur.com then post the url here using the image button. They have stayed on the site since 2015.
What a mess that was/is. I think I've just been copy/pasting pics in this thread, so that's probably why.
I have to dig out my old phone to find the pics that have gone. But can update you from here! I found a 4.11 rear limited slip diff, so I installed that along with Kartboy Tbrace bushings and rear subframe lockdown bolts. It was here that I found out that the passenger side of the T brace was nice and bent somehow, so I slapped a cleaner unbent one in as well. I removed the factory turbo legacy front crossmember and steering rack because my 27mm front swaybar did not really fit because it was made for GD, so the bushings were kinda ghetto. I had a GD WRX crossmember and manual converted steering rack that I swapped in. (steering rack that was in the car was a parts store leaky pos replaced by the previous owner) I need another alignment Onto the dash mess! Finally found a 92-94 turbo Legacy black interior, so time to swap all that in. Twas from a Touring Wagon, so it was automatic (and wagon) so i'm still on the hunt for some more bits, but the big bits are done.
Slapped the engine back in the car, Just waiting on free time to head up to the dealer and get intake gaskets and coolant crossover pipe o rings to finish that up. I have a little bit of wiring mess to do, wiring up the coilpacks to the ecu, JDM headlights use a different bulb so I need to swap some pigtails, JDM turn signals move the blinker from the "foglight" spot on the front bumper up to where they should be, so I need to wire those in. I swapped brake booster and master cylinder to ones from something newer, better looking, smaller and cleaner. The brake fluid level sensor(?) uses a different plug, so I need to splice that in as well.
Best pic I have right now, but finished up the interior, center console in, front seats, rear seats, etc. Added a factory upgraded Clarion CD player too, replaced the old Panasonic CD player that came with the car.
Got to work fitting my Mishmoto radiator and fans, (have to wire those too). Shes very close but i'm calling it good.
Made some decent progress on it this past weekend, Just need to put in my waterbox in, wire up the coilpacks and ECU and it should run.
Very rare image my grandmother (may she rest in peace) took the day i got this car, cannot thank her enough! (im pushing on the back right)
Wagon will get more low this winter, I promise. Red car runs good! Re-Tuned it, added a little more advance, at 16-17psi I beat an Evo 10 from a 20 roll.
Wagon low! KYB AGX and Eibach springs, saggy rear due to GC/GM chassis suspension parts, I have spacers though.
Awesome car! always had a bit of soft spot for the older scoobies. What's the next step for it build wise?
First time I have stumbled across this tread. Props for the ambition. Those days are long gone for me.
I love the literature collection. I had to thin out one of my storage totes and these didn't make the cut. They're yours if you'd like them.
Im trying to figure that out, its pretty good how it is now, Its pretty limited as far as power goes with the stock chipped ecu. So it would need a standalone of some kind if i wanted to make some more power, But even then the rod bolts will probably stretch shortly after. Its still just a 220k mile stock shortblock. The picture got deleted but my next project is this 1992 Turbo wagon. Its very clean, 100k miles. Lucky find, purchased from someone on the forum here! Its getting the same sort of treatment but a little more, I have ej20k sti heads, evo 3 big 16g, 6 speed, etc. So the red one is on hold currently.
One or both will probably get built shortblocks down the road, just need to figure out what to do. Fun other secret project is this other 91 turbo sedan I bought, then sold to my friend, We just are finishing up the 5 speed swap, ej20k longblock, ej20g intake, td05 16g, same sort of deal minus the 22t.
