Just purchased a Perrin CAI for my WRX. I've done some research and it leads me to believe I should be cautious of moisture being sucked into the system even though it's covered by the undertray. Perrin sells a prefilter, but to me it seems that it's only used as a small partical filter, not for moisture. The technician helping me with live chat didn't think I should be worried about moisture even after I mentioned which part of the country I live in. It seems the only way moisture would be a factor is if I was driving in water that was above the undertray. Thoughts/opinions?

A prefilter isn't a bad idea if you have an issue with water from things like car washes. I used to have an occasional problem with the SPT intake every now and then if enough water got on the filter to get sucked by the MAF. It'd cause a CEL and cut power. It certainly can't hurt anything to have one on there, it helped with my issue.

I've been told by driftin240(Brian) that a pre filter is really smart, especially for the cost of one! I used to have the same issues with the SPT, hence the reason for his recommendation.

Anyone know a good spot to get one?

K&N sells a decent one, I'm sure any online retailer that carries their line will have them.

Hmmm, wonder if they all are about the same size concerning fitment. I'll have to do some digging! Thanks Brian.

I have had issues with CELs after car washes and will be installing one on the CAI I have as I move to the engine bay winter project. Just makes sense.

Soooo what I gathered from all this nonsense is if I wear pantyhose on my head while going through a carwash I should be OK?

Yes, you will stay dry...if the windows are up. Rumor has it, you can use pantyhose over the filter as a cheap pre-filter solution. I'll be ordering an actual pre-filter myself. Pantyhose are for my legs, not my filter.

There for legs? No wonder I get guns drawn on me when I go to the bank. I thought they were for my head! :D

I will be purchasing a pre-filter from Perrin for $39.99. Suppose I can cough that up since I got the intake for $155 from a dude on NASIOC! Beejealouz

I have the AEM prefilter on my CAI. Prior to installing it I would get a MAF CEL every time after I went through the car wash. Now I rarely get it. I think it does stop quite a bit of moisture from making it into the intake.

FYI I put an AEM pre-filter on my Perrin CAI and have no issues. I assume all of them are basically the same material. The AEM one cost me $25 shipped and I have no issues with fitment with the Perrin foam filter. Works like a charm. Never had issues with the MAF getting wet but I bought it more as a precautionary effort.

btw Josh, you should be looking for one of these for the rsvx before you consider one for the wrx. If nothing else it'll make cleanup much easier.

Anyone have any experience with these? The product recommended for my car is made by K&N I'm curious if I'd have fitment issues? Looks like it tapers on one end, I'm afraid the diameter would be too small for the Perrin filter.

The ones that i've researched seem to have pretty descriptive measurements. Measure yours and compare it to the ones that you're researching?

Yes, I have one that I used on my Cobb intake. I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't have any experience, but they work great. Saved my engine a few times.

Had to go with the Perrin filter. All the others had too small of a diameter because of the tapered end.
