Hello friends, My alternator went out last night, and I would prefer to remove it, have it rebuilt, and then placed again. Is there anyone out there with experience that would be up for the task of removing it/reinstalling it? I don't have a lot of cash, but I would be happy to supply a case of beer of your choice. If you have another form of payment that would be better, I am all ears. Give me a shout at [email protected]. Thanks all, I truly appreciate it! Matty J
PM me i could help you. but like bielke said, just buy a reman from subaru and be done with it, we could have it swaped out easily.
thanks Carl, and yes it's very easy. You must be getting slow in your old age Fuji! 15 minutes is unacceptable...
lol, even I can swap an alt in 15 minutes. Also, OP, I have a working used alt from an 01 RS (should fit many other subarus) - if you need to buy one.
I too have to say go with a Subaru reman one. It will save you down time and probably money. FYI: last alternator I replaced took me 5 minutes start to finish, including taking the old one out.
He has an '03 Forester. Would an alt from an 01 RS work? Also, Reman = Remanufactured? Matty and I are probably going to do this Saturday afternoon so we just need to know what to ask for @ Morrie's if qstarin's alt won't work.
I always refer to the list here. This is for a single alternator, implying that they are interchangeable between all these models. I was asking $40 for my good used one (I upgraded to that high-output one from maniacelectricmotors)
Cool. That should work then. Hopefully he buys it from you. :hsugh: Any special tools (aside from metric sockets / a wrench) needed for this?
Something to measure belt tension is nice just to be sure, but I've personally never had any trouble just gauging by feel. Otherwise, its one the absolute simplest things to change out. Right in front, only a couple bolts and one wiring harness.
I'm thinking we should have some kind of Blindfolded alternator replacement challenge. Have this nice fellow put that case of beer up for the winner
The tribeca one is wrong for sure, and for any 3.0, they have a wide serp belt with a completely different pulley on it.
This is brilliant! The entertainment factor would be good enough that you wouldn't even need a case of beer, although it definitely wouldn't hurt
