Now this goes down as one of the strangest things I have ever had happen.

For those who have taken a ride in the noisy Red Beast (2002 red bugeye) trying to help me identify the mysterious whine.

Well it dissapeared on my way home from Milwuakee, the car got so quiet it freaked me out. I was just waiting for the parts to go flying out the back end of the car at any minute. But NO nothing happened, even after some spirited driving through Mpls the gremlins stayed away. Mark thinks it might have been the carrier bearing getting hung up some how or crap in it, although I can't imagine how that could have happened ;)

I was sooooo close to ordering a 05 trans but hesitated after speaking to Mark Utecht, thanks!!

I will be driving up to Duluth with my fingers crossed tomorrow, wish me luck.

    Mike

I didn't think it was bad at all, however I do understand how it can drive you crazy waiting for something to break.

Yep. From all my years of mx, snowmobile, off roading, it always runs its absolute best, right before it blows its brains out all over the place. Kinda like "have fun, this is the last ride from me" kinda thing.

Well, Mike called me and said it happened. The trans shelled this morning. Cat ass trofic failure. He has already begun the search for a new pail o'cogs.

I was very puzzled by the disappearance of the noise. I call dibs on the autopsy. No fair lettin' someone else in there first as they will contaminate the crime scene!

    Sorry. Had to do it.

I too would be curious to see the results of the autopsy.

Just to be clear, the whine went away for a few days and then it blew up?

    WOW, WRX1 called that one.

Launching is not a problem for us, our clutch went 110k miles. Not real sure why the bearing went out in the center diff. From what I read this is a know issue.
