So i was headed home from work and i decided to open my baby up(08 wrx hatch) with the fresh 15 degree temp lol i hit 105mph and my car shut off and steering locked up and and merry christmas my dash light up with colors!...so i was either thinking its because i should get it tuned even tho i only have exhaust and intake OR because it was sucking in so much air it threw every code off. Any comments or help appreciated!

It might be telling you that overdriving your headlights is not a good idea... Then what you pulled over and restarted your car... It ran and drove fine afterwords???

If you did change the intake/exhaust/downpipe it needs to be tuned or it will run like crap.

Did it shut off or did it go into limp mode? Sounds like overboost. It was cold last night. Also, you were what, at the top of 4th?

What do you mean by exhaust? A catback? A downpipe? Both? More? Which intake are you running? SPT?

Also, smart move admitting to driving recklessly on a public road on a forum where 1) that kind of thing is frowned upon and 2) several law enforcement officers are members. lol

Sounds very dangerous. Well both the 105mph and shutting off but mostly the shutting off part. Run the car on the dyno(any dyno) and see if you can replicate the issue. Thats something you wouldn't want to happen again. You got lucky this time that you didn't need to steer or get on the brakes really hard but what if you had to. Your brakes would have maybe 30% of its full capability and would require some strong legs to stop the car.

Lets not give him too much crap about his speed. The driving situation needed to be described in order to possibly find out whats going on. If he claimed that his car shut off under normal/light acceleration because he was concerned about peoples opinions of that speed no possible diagnosis could occur. People can drive that fast without endangering others, when care is taken with where you are.

The speed didn't need to be stated... he could have better described by stating the gear and RPM that the problem occured... the rest of us would have figured out about where his speed was at... but at least it wouldn't read like we have a bunch of members driving on public roads at speeds near twice the posted limits... That's just my honest opinion

    Thanks,
    Dean

That does make some sense. I just kind of took it not as him bragging about speed, but being concerned for the condition of his car. really I was just pointing out that his description of the problem did not warrant him not getting assistance, other than a lack of listed mods.

Ease up on the guy. Yeah, he should not have said his speed especially when it is that dumb, but for some of you to look at this and say you wont give him advice because he is a stupid reckless driver, we can now all assume that you have never speed at all in your life. Your attitude implies that you have never done a heavy acceleration in your car nor have you ever gone over the speed limit because that would be, well, reckless.

With that said, it should have been addressed in a different way. List your mods, say the gear and RPM. Say things that would help people figure it out. Also, I know you went through second grade. Please capitalize your "I" and do not say "lol". You have a full keyboard, please use it.

Are there any codes/check engine lights on now? Pulling the code will give an idea of what happened.

I remember an 02 WRX a number of years ago with similar mods/no tune and almost the same situation, he leaned his motor out and toasted the block. He'd posted it up on Nasioc, was a complete tool and his post made it's way to every Subaru dealer in the area. I understand that the 2.0 and 2.5 motors aren't exactly the same, but an intake and TBE + no tune and cold air are all going to cause issues. Any drivability issues, etc since?
