    Car: 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (5MT)
    Modifications: Spectre Intake

Problem: The car stalls almost immediately after starting when the RPMs drop below 1000, applying gas will keep the car running. I had a CEL that was reading P0102 (which is MAF low voltage I think), but after cleaning the MAF I still have the same problem, and my code reader is no longer working (crappy bluetooth one).

I would like to borrow a known good MAF from someone before I go and spend $350 for a new one to test out if that is the problem. Also does anyone have any experience with after market MAF sensors, like the ones on rockauto.com? If anyone has any ideas about what else could be causing my problem let me know. While I was cleaning the MAF, I noticed that the hose to my PCV didn't have a clamp on it, so I will be trying to fix that.

Other things that I have researched might be wrong, Front O2 sensor, EGR Valve, or TPS, but the P0102 code seems to point to the MAF.

Recent Maintenance: Headgaskets replaced, cats replaced, clutch replaced, clutch master cylinder replaced, camshaft position sensor replaced

    Thanks,
    Paul

HAve you tried unplugging the MAF and seeing if it runs better?

Does it smell like unburnt fuel when it is running?

Have you double (triple, quadruple) checked that no hoses are disconnected on the intake (vacuum leak)?

    1. Yes, Seems to do the same thing.
    2. Yes
    3. No hoses are disconnected that I can see, other than the missing clamp on the PCV.

If it runs the same with the MAF plugged in and unplugged, generally the MAF isn't the problem. When did this problem start?

I know there is a hose on the bottom of the intake (the tube part, not the square resonator parts) that gets over looked frequently. Guilty of it myself (took me 3 hours the last time it happened to me...).

I checked all the hoses and secured the hose to the PCV. Everything remains the same. I borrowed a code reader from a coworker and it is reading P0102 even after I cleared it, ran the car it threw it again. I think I am off to buy a MAF sensor tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions Shancaldazar.

If its a low voltage, won't that hint to problems in the wiring? I'd check to make sure a wire is not broken or kinked.

Just a follow up because I got it fixed on Sunday. I replaced the MAF sensor with a remanufactured unit from O'reilly (the only place I could find that had one in stock) and immediately the car was cured. This was after checking all the hoses and the wiring. Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions.
