Put new plugs in today and there is no spark, I noticed the main fuse was blown so I changed that but still nada. I will tinker with it tomorrow and see if there is anything I can find

sweet, thanks rich. I owe you a ton.

We thought that's what it was but it was just coincidence that the car started after we changed a fuse. The fuse we changed ended up being the cigarette lighter or something not related to the problem. I didn't notice any other fuses blown all weekend when I was checking them.

cool, if rich can't figure it out, which I don't blame him since electronic issues are a PITA, I may have to hire your services.

here are the codes it pulled code 11,33,23,49

11-crank angle sensorNo signal entered from crank angle sensor, but signal (corresponding to at least one rotation of the crank) entered from cam angle sensor

23-Air flow sensorAbnormal voltage input entered from air flow sensorControls the amount of fuel (injected) in relation to engine speed and throttle sensor position
33-Vehicle speed sensorAbnormal voltage input entered from vehicle speed sensorSets vehicle speed signal to a fixed value
49-Air flow sensorUse of improper air flow sensor

I just turned the key to the start position and these are what flashed on the cel light,
from what i can figure out its probly the crank sensor.

I also noticed that the keeper pin for your passenger side front axel way all the way out, I put it back in. The way it was your tire could not of been spinning. you was in 3 wheel drive :)

My sisters car did this recently also with the same set of codes along with a coolant temp sensor code. Replaced that and it fired right up. If it hasent been done on this i would suggest just doing it, it does some funky things when they start going bad.

indeed the coolant temp sensor wacking out can cause a hard start, but it wont kill the spark.

W00t! Absinthe for all! I'm pumped. Thanks for all the help guys, especially rich, you're a life saver. I owe you big time.

I'll pm you when I get home. I'm posting from my blackberry and doing anything is a chore and pming on a blackberry sucks when it flakes out.

I've got spare crank and cam angle sensors for this reason. Mine could go bad since they have over 200k on them. I just don't want to spend $250 on a new new one. :eek4:

^that's crazy. why would the imp one be so much cheaper?!

I'm curious if the t-leg was still running kyles fuel pump. the CAS definitely explains many of the symptoms, but not the fuel pump. or the fact that it was only even trying to come on some of the time.

but, I'm glad to hear it's repaired.

dont know why its like that, but they made this "kit" because of the older legacies

i see where you are getting those, but we do sell the kit! doesnt make sense, pretty sure they are the same, being i am running one from a legacy in my car!

    bump for reference.

'92 legacy crank and cam sensors respectively:

    '96 imp:

only difference appears to be the legacy ones have the wiring pigtail, and the imp ones have a plug on them. I bet you could snag the wiring connectors from a junkyard, and splice them onto the legacy pigtails, and run the muuuuch cheaper imp sensors.

If you are going to splice something like that be careful. The two wires are twisted and also sheilded by a jacket, like coax. Is the plug on the back of the motor the same? One could use the whole impreza plug, or not. The wiring layout on imprezas is lame...

it's not the same. the wiring for the 2 sensors is intertwined into the engine harness. also, it looks like the wiring right at the sensor is not shielded, so I don't think it would be too hard to splice that plug on to the legacy wire. in fact, at a glance, the plug looks identical to the injector plugs.....
