Random CEL popped up cruising at 75mph on mile 750 of 800 weekend miles. I have no Tactrix (yet) and the freebie checker at Checker no worky with my 07. They thought my car was "too new".

So, anyone on the "west side" have a Tactrix/ECUExplorer they'd like to share? I'm in SLP (SE corner of 169/394).

Otherwise, off to Tonka Suby in the AM.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sean

Not sure about connectors...we road tuned it using the single Tactrix cable into the OBDII port. Is that what you're describing? Sent PM.

I have both a Tactrix cable and a fairly new code scanner if Eden Prairie is within striking distance for you. Or if you're likely to find yourself out by the Mega Mall during the day, my office is about 1/2 mile from there.

You don't need "the connectors" just to read the ECU with the Tactrix cable; that's a reflashing thing.

yeah but on earlier models which I was thinking to clear the code you would need the connectors I believe.. on DBW cars you dont

Nope, resetting the ECU is not the same as reflashing it. Reflashing uses the SSM protocol, resetting just uses normal OBD-II commands.

To read or write to the ECU, you'll need the connectors (put into diagnostic mode)
You can read what's stored in the ram without the connectors

see I thought if you wanted to clear anything even cels, you had to at least connect the white connector on a DBW vehicle.. I know my 03WRX had to have the green jumper too

That's a relief; it looked like you were spoiling for a fight earlier. And you're really scary with your green hair, and nasty, sharp pointy teeth, so I'd probably've had to run away screaming like a girl.

I'm suddenly feeling a bit sleep deprived, so I'm off to bed now, hopefully to dream of fluffy bunnies and puppies frolicking in the meadow, and not scary clowns that eat fluffy bunnies and puppies while they frolick in meadows.

    G'night,
    Stuart.

I would have charged you $200, made you buy me lunch, then take me out for a candle light dinner. But it would have gotten done ;)

Tonka Subie just charged me $90 to pull the code - P0420.:emo:

I do appreciate the irony of the code #.

Yup, that one's my bad for missing it in the CEL disable portion of the map. Apologies to Sean! At least it's a quick and easy fix.

And wow; didn't know they'd get you that much just to pull the code. Yikes!!:(:(

Believe, I'm still f&*king steaming over it. Checker does it for free but their Plymouth store's reader couldn't "recognize" my 07.

[looks around for a kitten to beat a baby seal with...]

I have no desire to use them for service again...sad because that is the closest dealer to me. Seems to me that plugging the god damn reader in and pulling a code should be free or next to nothing. Hell, charge me 15min of shop time but WTF does a $99 (before MNSubaru discount) "diagnostic test" really entail?

Word of advise, next time something like this happens (so soon after a tune) go see your tuner. 99.9% of the time it has something to do with that, never go to the dealer

I know, my advise is a little late :(

Boooooooooooooo. This is what happens when I make a stage new map out of a stage 1 map. :);) On a side note, I really wish they could make the CEL delete section of RomRaider a little more user friendly. Clicking on EVERY different CEL to see if it's disabled is a PITA and leads to the type of FAIL that caused this thread.

Yeah, he did call me yesterday. I was busy and couldn't answer the phone, unfortunately.

That buys a not-too-shabby code reader. I wonder if it'd be worth setting up a tent in the Haskell's car park offering half price code scanning.

I called Nate right away but I needed to know what the issue was ASAP as I need to head back out on the road tomorrow for work and I wasn't sure if I could get schedules aligned. My ADD went into overdrive once I saw the CEL come on thinking I'd murdered my daddy's baby.

EDIT: Jamie the service manager called and gave me some relief on pricing. Very nice and understanding guy. Thank you Jamie. If anyone else ever goes in to get a CEL code communicate your wants specifically if you just want the code only and no diagnosis...otherwise the default is for the tech to diagnose after pulling the codes.

Anyway, problem fixed over lunch. Thanks for everyone's help. Even Curly's.... Lesson learned - don't buy a shady STi axleback from Nuke...
