Just get some fine grit sand paper and a dental pick and take your time on it, then you shouldn't have any problems. That's how i did mine.

I've had pretty good success with a pack of Q-Tips and nail polish remover. When finding remover, get one that is mild and avoid 100% Acetone. 100% Acetone will destroy the plastic face. Also, make sure you're only scrubbing off paint behind the numbers/dashes and not the whole gauge. Even though the face is black plastic, it's somewhat opaque. This is especially true if you're using very bright LED's behind it, the light will bleed through a little.
And yes, changing the gauge clusters takes quite a bit of time. I averaged 6 hours per conversion when I did a few.
