Anyone know someone/somewhere that can replace a coat zipper for cheap? I talked to Midwest Mountaineering, and their quote was $75 :(

    Thanks!!

Any sewing/clothing repair or alterations shop can replace a zipper for you. That said, I do not know the cost, but Midwest Mountaineering (while a sweet shop) is overpriced in pretty much everything, so I'd hope it would be cheaper than them.

There's a small shop in Maplewood Mall that does alterations. They did my sons coat zipper for less then 20 bucks. But he is only 7 and the coat wasn't too big.

Look for a local alteration shop. I had a zipper replaced on a hoodie for pretty cheap at a small shop in Andover.

Given your location of Saint Paul, it's pretty far for you to come up northwest to Marta's Tailor shop, she does great, fast work for cheap. There is another tailor shop in Andover square that is quick and easy on the pocketbook. Just for reference; I had Marta's replace the zipper on my leather motorcycle jacket with a nice, heavy duty one all for the tune of $24 and she was done in one day!

Was about to say somewhere like sew what by macalester is close to you, Eric. Pretty much any tailor should be able to do it for ~$20 depending on what's broken

Thanks guys!! The whole zipper will need to be replaced. The Sew What site lists this as $35.

Technically it was Thrifty Outfitters I talked to and not MWM, but it still seemed

In Minneapolis, right on Cedar and the parkway (near the new Italian Eatery/Carbone's, Cork Dork etc.) there is an independent lady there named Ann who owns and runs Ann's Tailor which we had do all of the work for our wedding, and my wife uses her for an assortment of other jobs. She is efficient, and competitively priced.

Is this coat fixed yet? It's getting colder out and it sucks having to hold your coat shut with your hands.

Just install velcro in place of zipper.

Permanently fused shut with heat is not considered a proper fix for a zipper. Unless you like pullovers.
