Not true if you match the correct offset to the spacer so it is equivalent to the factory wheel. I wouldn't run them but what you say is incorrect.

I don't know about the cities, but in Roch it used to be really popular to get some 13" chrome/gold rims and get 3" spacers so they'd come out past the fenders of cars with "Rodriguez" in old english across the back window.
That fad went away about 4 years ago though.

 

We are not all Mexicans just because we speak Spanish or have a name like Rodriguez you know.

 

Those are generally a bad idea. Not necessarily unsafe, but bad for your car and bad for your suspension geometry. I don't know of many wheels that we would typically run in a 91mm negative offset.


It will push your wheels out for a wider track, but in this case, its not good. You are putting a massive increase in scrub radius in your car, along with goofed bump-steer, a really bad dave-point, and a host of other things. Think of suspension geometry as a very delicate balance of a dozen variables. Also, like Nathan mentioned, you are increasing the load on your wheel bearings significantly. We all know how tender Subaru wheel bearings can be.



So, the moral of the story is, if you want a 5 X 114.3 bolt pattern that bad, get '05+ STi knuckes, brakes, and all the other stuff needed for that. Or buy an STi.

 

True, but in Rochester they usually had a Mexican flag across the back window, so I only presumed they were Mexican in heritage. Like I said, it seemed to be a short-lived fad, and that's probably why Nathan said what he said.

Also, I agree with piddster on this one, people don't really understand how important suspension geometry is, but stuff like this have pretty bad effects on how the car behaves in general. While it may look cool, functionality is compromised. With a spacer that thick, I'd imagine the difference would be substantial.

 

Yup. A 3mm spacer to clear some 4 pots is one thing. You'll see that kind of variance in different brands of wheels. But 38.1mm is asinine.
