I get that. Don't forget satellite TV.

Thing is, though, is that those amenities are behavior control devices for the prison administration. If you take all that away you have a thousand+ bad, often violent, also often mentally unstable, very mad people with nothing to occupy their time.

Workout room's, libraries, and satellite TV distract them and drastically lower the incidences of violence inside of prisons.

About the only other reasonable option is to keep people locked in their cells 24/7 or very close to it. Problem with that is it's destructive to the inmates, most of whom will reenter society. If we go that route sentences have to drop dramatically - that kind of time is extremely difficult and quickly turns people into nothing but revenge machines.

Of course, politically that would never work because everyone would shout outrage at the slightest hint of lowering sentences.

I think it's important, too, to acknowledge that on occasion (and I do believe such occasions are rare) people are wrongly convicted. What's the price for executing someone for a crime they didn't commit. How many guilty people should we spare the death penalty and give life incarceration to so that a single wrongly convicted person can have the time to work his way through the legal system and get his conviction overturned?

I personally knew one person who spent over ten years in prison because he was wrongly convicted of raping and murdering a woman. It took him that long to fight his way through the courts despite having quite strong material evidence of his innocence. Given most people's opinions in this thread he would have been executed, tortured, or worse.

Would you mind elaborating a bit more on that? I'm trying to figure out if you're talking about the court striking down the handgun ban in DC, and how that is a bad thing. It made no sense, being able to own a rifle or a shotgun but not a handgun. The court ruled correctly, it's not their purview to rewrite a constitutional amendment.

Yes, one is longer than the other. Glad you picked up on that. Can you tell me why one should be allowed and one should not be? Constitutionally there is no difference, and that's why the court took down the ruling.

The only thing why i think a hand gun could be more useful for self defense is because you can dial 911 with one hand and still be pointing a gun at lets say a robber. But you cant hunt with a handgun.

the LAW was in the TORAH I believe, it was the laws they lived by for Justice in the old days... PRE NEW TESTAMENT.. Jesus is saying in that passage "Yes this is what was told in the olden days but he is saying now we arent under that law, but a 'NEW TESTAMENT' and that we are to forgive, and stuff... and not be so legalistic etc.. problem is you cant just use 1 passage of scripture out of context to make a point.. for example if you eye causes ou to sin gouge it out.. well it isnt literal so much but more of an analogy of being extreme in how you live and choices you make yada yada.. and besides this is a NO religion site.. so I will leave it at that..

I htink there should be justice but sometimes due to the crime or offense committed the punishment/justice doesnt always match the extremity of the offense, and this is where the justice system falls short.. like someone who has been caught DWI multiple times, is illegal yet let go.. they kill someone and now they want to do something.. well you know if the punishment had of followed what the law required the innocent person would never have been killed... the argument can go on and on..

I say.. people stop bitching.. you want LIBERAL TREE HUGGING SOCIALST running your government then you bitch when this stuff happens... Religious right has its faults thats for sure but at least they would have fried this asshat

Why would an easier ability to defend yourself be a bad thing? Depending on the situation a homeowner may be more concerned with stopping the threat before dialing 911. And I'd bet that anyone on here could hold a shotgun on an intruder just fine and still dial 911. Speaker phone is a great thing. And yes, you can you can hunt with handguns. There are several out there built specifically for that purpose with ballistics that put some rifles to shame:

    Smith and Wesson .460 XVR:

I never said anything in regards to my feelings on gun control. I was simply stating that the constitution and other laws/rules in this country need to be upheld without exception. That includes child rapists unfortunately, we can't cherry pick what we do and don't like. Either it applies to all issues, or it applies to none. In this country, everyone is entitled to their day in court (terrorists included), and apparently the Death Penalty does not apply to child rapists. That is all I was saying, my beliefs on said issues have zero to do with that.

Actually, the .460 XVR is the real animal of those 3. might be a little smaller in diameter but it's faster and hits harder.
