So I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one out Saturday having fun. But how do you guys clean or clear your tires of snow packed into your rims? All I could do was use my hands and they can't get all the snow outta there? Any technique I should know of or something I need to do differently? Any help would help a lot.
depends on if its steelies or not, with alloys you can just poke it with a longer screw driver and it falls off
I had to use a space heater in my garage to un-freeze my brakes last night so that I could get to work in the morning. Not fun. I need to get my garage insulated/heated.
You mean clean your RIMS of snow. FFS people. I was gonna say, I clean my tires by goosing the throttle.
I have steelies on my car. I went through a touchless car wash and it got all the external snow off. The front brakes have very little clearance, so it knocked all the snow off of the inside of my fronts, but the rear wheels still have quite a bit of snow packed inside of them. By now it's pretty much iced on. I have an attached garage that normally stays a bit above freezing, but with this cold weather my wheels won't melt. I might have to get a heater or take the wheels off to remove the snow/ice. Right now it's pretty rough going over 60mph
My main winter tires are on my old, stock 5-spoke. One thing I've learned to live with is a physically marred wheel. It's pitted and scratched, and it's not getting better. I take a large flathead screwdriver to it without care. No snow and ice survives.
If you pick up an unlimited car wash pass from Holiday... this works great. It was 50% the first two months when i got mine. $16 / month for the first two months... then $30 a month... then cancel in April. *Tip: no one washes their car in the morning... 99% of the time there is no line. everyone waits till after work.
That's what I have. Sometimes I will go multiple times in a single day if my car gets covered in snow/salt And you're right, at 6AM there is never a line! Just be careful to note, some of the Holiday car washes are NOT touch free. Avoid these! The touchless ones seem OK to me.
I usually wait until I have to take a big piss. J to the K. I poke it with a scraper. As for the ice melting to your brakes... if your car can't break that free upgrade...
This is the worse car I've had with getting snow stuck in the rims. The stuff dont come out ever. Is it some kind of coating or paint they use? I mean come on its ridiculous lol
Take it off a sweet jump, knock it out , ice scraper or heated garage or car wash are you best options.
