Hey guys i turned on my defrost the other night and when i turned it up it made this slight clicking noise. You can't hear it when it is on really low and you can't hear it unless it is on defrost. It almost sounds like something broke off in there and the fan is hitting it but im not sure. The noise is coming from the front passenger feet area. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Probably a leaf in the blower motor cage.

Then why does it only do it on defrost? Maybe it has something to do with the fresh air vents?

From inside the car or does it sound like its from the engine bay?

If its from the engine bay, it probably your AC turning on and off, defrost cycles the AC system.

It is from inside the car. If you go to the passenger side and put your head where your feet normally go you can hear it really well. I tried pushing on everything down there and the noise didnt go away and nothing looked wrong visually. Also the noise is slightly more noticeable when i take a turn, almost like something is rolling around in there. The noise wasn't there the night before when i turned my defrost on either.

How many miles on the car, and have you ever done a cabin air filter?

I would take you glove box out for starters to try and get a better clue where the sound is coming from and let us know what you find.

Alright so i took out the glove box and opened up where the cabin air filter goes and it is pretty dirty. I turned on the defrost when the filter was out and it looks like little rocks that are making the noise. What is the best way to clean in the fan area? Also where can you get one of these filters? Thanks

Does anyone know the best way to clean in the fan area? I would prefer not bringing it to the dealer cause they always charge an arm and a leg. It is such a tight spot, i just don't know the best way to get those little pebbles out of there.

Shop vac? I don't have cabin air filter (or an Impreza for that matter) so I have no idea what this area and its access look like. Interesting...I get a spell check warning for Impreza.
