I have a set of Cusco Zero2 coilover that i want to check to make sure they arent blown. How would i go about doing this? I know it seems like a n00b question to ask but i have no idea:dunno:
take them off, take the springs off and push down to compress the shock body/shaft. It should move slowly and evenly under your body wieght. If it sticks a little or makes strange sucking sounds then they're done for and need replacing/rebuilding.
Sound like they need a rebuild. Most coil overs I see need a rebuild every two to three years. Unless you spend the big bucks like 4-5K
they aren't gas charged so they dont rebound all springy like stock ones or gas struts. however what sucks the most is even if they are blown Cusco does not rebuild or repair their struts and almost nobody will, and the ones who will charge a ton of money for it.
I go rid of my zero 2-r's for the reason that almost all cheaper coilovers have much better options for rebuilding or replacing struts. like i said before cusco will sell you entire replacements struts at list price, but nothing else. might as well just buy another set if they're all blown, or go to a company that cares a little more about its customers (found this out the hard way too)
Some one help me understand what i am looking for... they go down smooth and steady but do NOT rebound
They should not rebound at all. There is not gas charge to push the piston back up. The only real way to check them is to have they dyno'd on a shock dyno. Other than that pushing down on them with your hand will not be able to move the piston fast enough to check the condition. If they feel uneven when pushing the piston down with your hand then they are far past dead.
ok its an oil filled strut, usually they have to have something pressing against them in force to rebound. konis are the same way, you push them in with your hand and you have to pull them back out again, but if installed on a car they rebound fine. do they stick or not rebound when put on the car?
I havent done that yet i was waiting to see if i should rebuild them first.. I think ill throw them in and see what happens
