    Hey Gents,

I was curious if anyone had either direct experience with or knew someone who had used one of the Collector Car insurance options like Hagerty, etc?

My Bugeye is getting old enough that I was thinking of pricing that out. Thanks!

Are you going to swap your plates out too? I have no experience with any collectors insurance :(

Maybe. I might keep the Critical Habitat plates I have at least until they're due for replacement but dunno.

I've been eyeing Hagerty too but haven't pulled the trigger. IIRC @pleiades used them recently on the BRZ?

I have done collector plates tho and that's worth it imo.

Yes, I had my '64 Biscayne insured with Hagerty and now the BRZ. Thankfully haven't had to make any claims with them but they seem to have really good coverage. If I'm not mistaken they have stated-value policies, so you basically just tell them how much you want to insure the car for and don't have to worry about it getting undervalued if it's totaled. They're also very accommodating for coverage on aftermarket/custom parts and modifications. The cost for my Biscayne was next to nothing because I only had it insured for like $5-6k, premiums on the BRZ are slightly less than they would've been with my primary carrier for our house and other cars but the coverage is way better with Hagerty and I have zero deductibles. I'm not sure how strict they are on what cars they'll insure or how much they look into the value you specify, but I think it's definitely worth it if their policy suits your needs.

Also, with Hagerty your car doesn't need to have collector plates on it but I believe it does need to be a secondary vehicle for recreational/pleasure use. You have to tell them approximately how many miles you'd drive each year and they at least strongly prefer you have it in a secure garage or something most of the time.

Ah thanks! this is hugely helpful. I keep it in our garage all year so no issue there.

I'll get going on a quote and share the pricing here for future reference.

I had Hagerty insure my 2005 WRX for a couple of years. They now insure my 2011 STI.

Cool! Yea I think I'm going to give it a shot. I'm doing my best to estimate my mileage/year, is there a big penalty if i'm higher than I predict or is that something they don't really track?
