Hello my name is Dean Sherwood. I started working construction while I was still in high school. I started off as a carpenter framing houses and hanging sheet rock. I did that for a few years until I found concrete. I joined the concrete finishers union and worked my way up from an apprentice to become a foreman for one of the largest commercial contractor’s in the state.

I have worked on various projects. To name a few: BestBuy corporate HQ (494 & 35W), numerous high-rise buildings in both downtown locations, Medtronic CDRM campus (HWY 10 & 35W), both of the Shoppes (Maple Grove and Woodbury) and the 35W bridge. That is just to name a few of the big jobs.

I have become an expert at anything that involves concrete including: stamped work, steps, interior concrete (smooth/ hard troweled finish), exterior concrete (driveways & sidewalks), concrete walls, curb and gutter, concrete overlayments including epoxy coatings, and concrete repair & patching. I also can arrange for tear out and removal and other various bobcat services. I will also provide most carpentry services including decks, framing, drywall (hanging, taping, & mudding), and interior finish carpentry including hanging doors. I don’t do windows or exterior doors. I think that about covers it all.

The reason that I am not currently working in the construction industry is due to the cut throat nature of the industry. I was always told by my co-workers that I cared about my concrete too much and to just hurry up and get it done. I am not into cutting corners and I still take pride in my work. The most satisfying feeling for me is to know I did a great job.

I can guarantee that if I am not lower than the next bid I’ll be very close and I WILL spend the extra time to do it right the first time. I look forward to providing a great service to you.

Here is a little job I did for my sister:

There was a old cast iron stove that I removed from the concrete pad that is being chipped up:
    handy1.JPG

I tend to alway bring help:
    handy2.JPG

Concrete is removed... now it's time to frame up the wall:
    handy.JPG
Framing is up and insulated and capped the vent for the stove:

Dry wall is up and being taped and mudded:

I can back up Deans handys service work. He does a great job and does in fact work diligently at perfecting his technique.

    I would hire him again.;)

The last couple sets of pics were at our house in St. Paul. Great patch work and tear down and very reasonable pricing. Plus that dog is a riot.

A big thank you to Green Bean Dean for all your hard work.

You must have been stressed Deanis...because you took out ALL of your aggression on that concrete. lol. You could have left some of it as the new steps would have covered it up. No worries tho, i backfilled the hole with some of the debris you left behind. lolol.

    Thorough Dean is thorough.;)

Well, I cut my hours down at the hospital which means I'm available for all your contracting needs. I will be attaining my general contracting license and insurance soon which means I'll have to incorporate those costs into my bid. In short, it's cheaper now then later!

In other words it's cheaper to hire you unlicensed and uninsured? ;)

That tends to be how it works... Paying for 3-6 types of insurance, license fee, advertising, hiring employees, buying equipment, becoming a member of the BBB and Angie's list all cost money... Unfortunately my business would not succeed if I don't pass on those costs... Just because someone is uninsured and unlicensed doesn't mean you won't get a quality product from them

I understand...I was just giving you a bad time. Unfortunately a lot of the public do not understand all of the "hidden" costs to a small business. I hope it all goes well for you.

Ballpark price for a single car wide, 4 car deep driveway up a slight incline? This picture isn't my driveway but it's pretty similar:

Glad this got bumped. I see lots of concrete, but do you do other "handy" type of things ;)? I'm looking to have a wall knocked down, after I check with my architect friend to make sure it's not load bearing.

I can do that... Load bearing walls tend to run with the main peak of your roof and along the center of the houses floor plan

    Springtime project time!
    before1.gif
This is a before pic. This basement wall did not have any insulation. (We're having the whole house rewired and we found this.)
So, dean came over and did this. He continued this in to next bedroom!
    after1.gif

Electricians are wiring it right now and the Inspector will be here tomorrow!
