Can I adjust the contrast of my deck if I hook up the yellow wire with the dimmer control? I know you can with gauges, I guess sometimes I don't want all the bright lights on the dash. Or can I go to Radio Scrap and get some kind of adjuster?

Also, RTFM. I'm sure it tells you in the wiring diagram if it connects to the interior dimmer wire, and if it can dim with the cabin lights.

I doubt that you'll get full control over it, but it may dim down a step or two. Most Alpine decks have a contrast setting in them. Go read the manual.

Because typically, LEDs require a certain bias voltage to illuminate, and have a max voltage range before they are cooked. But usually intensity doesn't change much on an LED unless it specifically allows for it. For long life, electronics manufacturers will probably bias an LED at or near its lowest required voltage and current. You'd likely only be able to increase intensity, not decrease it.

That's your own idiot-ass fault. Alpine has the manuals on their website in the support section.

If you hook it up to an illumination switch (ie. your dash clock) I bet it dims the deck by about half. It's not going to be adjusted like you think via the dimmer switch.

So, is the orange wire connected to the illumination lead on the car harness? Or is it not connected? Or did you connect it to something else?

If it is connected and the dimmer switch doesn't dim your stereo, then your question is answered

No it was never connected, it is taped off wrapped in the harness.
