Nope, they aren't worth it. You can accomplish your goals with WRX heads, quality cams and valvetrain and have a competant guy P&P it, and it wont cost you 8k or whatever to do it.

Also, if it has an STi v8 swap, is that JDM or USDM? Either way, the heads on that should be fine to 500whp as it has been done numerous times.

Depending on what you want to put out for porting, WRX heads are some of the worst flowing of the DOHC casting that has been used since '96. WRX heads have more material since they are the most conservatively casted of all the heads in that family.

But if you want to stay within that wiring, you don't have a ton of choices, other STi stuff.

Then again, you don't need a bunch of porting to make 500hp.

Also, do you have any idea what it takes to make 500hp on a Subaru?? Thats kind of a big question.

well..i know a few things...a turbo..good tires...gas...a good reinforced engine (something that can withstand the amount of power that it produces) other than that not really :| which is why iv been looking around XD

350WHP is pretty easy (relatively) with bolt-ons. Even with the EJ207 (which is a high-revving 2.0L, not a 2.5) 400 is when things start getting difficult. 500 on a 2.0L is a pretty major undertaking. Even with JDM parts as your base.

MAke sure you understand the breadth of what you are getting into because a 500WHP Subaru is not going to make a good daily driver. You'll NEED to have a second car to get around in and you need to expect a LOT of down time.

    Things to think about:
An engine capable of 500WHP needs a driveline capable of 500WHP. A 6MT can do that but the stock axles and driveshaft are going to be... sketchy at best.

Cooling. Oil, trans, radiator. They all need to be properly cooled.

Brakes and Tires. If you're making a drag car you can kind of skimp on these but if you intend to drive this on a road course you'll need SERIOUS brakes and tires. Even a daily driver will need better than average brakes and tires.

Engine Management: You'll probably need a stand-alone. You're going to want a stand-alone. The stock ECU is going to be close to its max capabilities at 500WHP.

I'm not trying to be the doom and gloom guy but make sure you know what you're getting in to before you buy the JDM parts. That is only the first 1/3 of your estimated parts cost. Then you need to figure in labor. If you're a handy guy and have lots of tools on hand (tools include welder, press, grinders, and all sorts of the specialty tools for tranny and engine work, not to mention that a lift is almost a requirement... you can do this without one but I certainly wouldn't want to) then you will significantly reduce your costs but if you've only done bolt-ons and don't have the equipment you'll need to buy a LOT of tools (I bought $300 worth of tools just for my bushing install and still had to outsource the pressing which took 2 weeks).

500WHP is no joke. I would talk to Kelly (snowbrdfrvr or something) FobiaWRX, and a few other people who have done big builds so you understand exactly what you're getting in to and can get advice from people who have been there.

What etchy said is pretty much on point. Here's another thing to remember....

Estimate how much it is going to cost you to do this project....then double that number. That's how much you need to budget because hidden costs add up FAST. If you think the project is going to cost 10k, then be prepared with 20k, because it WILL NOT end up being what you planned.

no no this is exactly what i need to hear :) i really need some input everyone else on places like I-club their like OMFGWTF ARE YOU CRAZY? and they never like tell me exactly why its so hard to do these things..i guess in reality i really wanted to build a car that could compete with vettes and such..or something lately though iv been rethinking the idea..maybe 350HP is what i should do because i want to keep it looking nice without some exterior coolers or something (iv seen a 1000hp Rex on youtube and the freaking thing has pipes hanging outside of the car it doesn't even look like a car :S) but what you say is true.. :p i wanna be able to drive it on the weekends while my daily driver is sitting in the garage (which will unfortunetly have to be a prius the way gas prices are :p) so thank you for your insight you by no means killed my desire :D you opened my eyes

^^ way to be positive good luck! sounds like fun. are you going to run some sort of crazy setup or try to stick to a basic setup.? (althought i dont know how basic you can get with 500HP.):laugh::laugh:
