JJ's probably too drunk off the fumes to even read what you responded with. I'd imagine he's balls deep in the bleach right now and totally sterile.
Menards is spraying their carts and baskets with dilute bleach. I smelled like bleach for the rest of the day after carrying a basket around the store. I can't imagine what it is like working around it all day.
I'm supposed to have a meeting with the brass today about trying to sway them into WFH and provide a list of other things we can re-direct focus on for a more limited role within the office and for WFH people. I'm not expecting it to go anywhere.
I saw one of my coworkers at Cub yesterday around lunch. She said she had not been WFH yet and had been going into the office daily. She is admin and does not need to be in the office based on her role. I am genuinely surprised that some of the people who continued to not WFH given a lot of the technicians, who more or less need a direct link to our servers got set up and sent to WFH mid-week last week, but the people who can WFH with more ease kept going in.
We're going on lockdown later today or tomorrow. No customers in the building, everything done over the phone, parts/equipment left outside for pickup.
I think that it’s working! There is definitely moar traffic on here. “Extra extra, read all about it! Covid-19 saves local web forum!!”
Most definitely. Traffic has doubled in the past 2-3 weeks for sure and we have received our first donations in 3 years. As for me, business as usual. Go to work, shut up ,and fix everyone's broken ****. Russ
Late to the party but brought chips. Well technically I'm out of chips.. When news broke about covid, my SO and I decided to only buy what we need, as opposed to hoarding what we can. I think we planned well for a few weeks but I am pretty sure we will need more before this is all over. We went to the store and it was so bizarre to see most of the meat gone, except things like chuck roast. I would have imagined the crock pot meats to go first but I guess that's a win for us? Given the circumstances, I finally picked up an iron skillet, so I can cook up the little bit of deer my dad gave me this year. Wfh is weird for me. Just before my team left the office, we built a new vpn firewall for the company to cope with the 200+ remote workers that were added. The last two weeks have been countless hours of fixing issues that never existed until now. On top of the regular bs and all of the projects we scheduled before the fan seized up from all the **** that hit it. In November, my SO and I got a dog and recently learned he had two torn ACLs. I say had because he just had surgery on Wednesday, and today was the first wfh day with him recovering. It went supringly well but that was because the SO is off for the next few days... SO's job is considered essential and she has to be back on site on Monday. I'm not too sure how I'll get through next week alone with the woofer, but I'm lucky enough to have a job where I can step away at any point to take care of the dog, despite the massive backlog of work.. It's funny to me that a "perk" of my job was that I could to work from home for situations like this well before covid, and now I'm required to when I needed it the most. I'm not to worried about myself besides my sanity but I know I've been incredibly lucky with the position I'm in. I can't even imagine how others who don't have work could get through this. I really do hope for the best for everyone.
My wife will be out of work for the next two weeks, or as long as the executive order lasts... I'm expecting any remaining rooms in the house that have white walls to be painted, and I won't be surprised if she changes a wall or two elsewhere.
Wife and I are both lucky to have out jobs still rolling. I just got my "I am essential" paperwork today.
Wife's work just let her a few others go today with staffing agencies short on work and no WFH. On the plus side she can entertain our needy corgi now while i work.
@Mnelson - hope recovery for the pooch goes OK. They repaired two legs at the same time? What kind of dog and how old? Bonus for a pic. @curly2k3 - does the wife do the work herself or does she just plan, manage and supervise the project(s)?
I have two friends that have early June weddings planned. Got the news today that they are postponed until September. I can't imagine doing all that planning just to have it fall apart in front of your face.
My brother in law has a September wedding planned with his fiancé that I am supposed to officiate. Right now they are worried that it could be cancelled or delayed.
She does some daycare (dog day care), but she's their groomer. They basically got told they need to close by the state by the sounds of it.
That things will go longer than a month or two. They said that ultimately, if they need to go down to “family only”, they will.
If you listen to Walz at all, this shut down is supposed to push the peak 10-12 weeks. you math that out and you are well into June almost July, and that is for peak. If those dates and timelines run true, this will be going on for 6 months for sure. Once we are past peak, it isn't just stopping in a day or 3, the ramp down will be slow and long and the economy ramp up will be even longer.
Well, one benefit is that with the 6 Trillion stimulus that passed is that you qualify for a $600 a week bonus PLUS your regular unemployment. That really haven't said how taxes are going to work for the extra cash, but it will be there.
I’ve always had to have it taken out or saved on my own accord in the past. Definitely curious as to whether it is tax free or not.
Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me that right after they give you $600 a week, they will promptly want 30%+ back in taxes. Kinda how the government works. Russ
I've decided that not being allowed to WFH, despite it being totally possible is about as nonsense a colonel sanders, the military chicken tycoon. So, I shaved my face the colonel sanders way today so if they have a vendor stop by I look (more) like a moron.
I bought a case of vodka ( and big bottles of brandy and whisky) at the beginning of the month. All out now - so what has been happening?
Marley is a 2yo black lab and great dane mix. I adopted him from a friend of mine who had had some health problems and needed to find a good home. Each leg was 8 weeks recovery so we figured we would rather suffer worse than twice. He's doing pretty good now. Pic is right after surgery. I haven't finished the basement but ended up making a temporary living quarters/office pre lock in. Worked out well since my place is a split level with a walk out. Thankfully, I don't have to carry him up and down the stairs. In far less exciting news, I learned a family friend had passed this morning from covid and it's been tough to believe. Might have to start drinking again. Edit: here's another pic of Marley not enyoing boost.
I'm guessing they have limited mobility after this type of surgery? Meaning able to stand to eat and potty? Sorry about your friend. I suspect a lot of us will be able to say the same thing before this is done with. I hear ya on the drinking thing.
Yeah, the first three days were rough. Used a sling to walk for him but the movement came back by day four and he has been able to move around a little bit on his own. We suspect that he had torn acls for a while which might be why he's already accustomed to putting weight on the front. The tough part will be training him to put all of his weight on the back when it's fully healed. Overall I think he's doing great!
