looking good. glad you dident tip the turbo back like most kits have been doing. going to have a little more lag with going to that 2inch tubing after they merge though. but im sure it wont matter to much

IMHO, if you are at the point where you have too much power for the 6MT, you should probably be running an automatic tranny anyways (Rigoli, etc). :)

I am building some parts for some guys building an auto WRX with a T4 so we will see how the autos hold up.The guys building it for them own a tranny shop so I will report back on their progress with that.

Plus with an auto it will be easier to launch off the line. IE Brake boost. I think a big turbo car with an auto would be sick.

PPG does make a dog setup for the 6mt, but it also runs about 10k. A five speed or even four speed dog box can be done in the 6mt case as well, for retardedly beefy gears. Dog boxes shift as fast as an auto when you use a hard-cut rev limiter. One just needs to be well versed in the launch.

Ah yes the intake manifold.Whos brilliant idea was this?I looks to me like they lengthened to runners to make up for the fact that the plenum is almost non existant. The have no plenum because then they would have to move the intercooler. The whole deal is a compromise to say the least and its time to design something the does not choke the motor at higher RPMs.

Its time to get the calculators out and see if we can do any better with the space available.

Here is what I use as my general math for intake manifolds(this is not the first one I have built BTW).

    1. / One Formula: David Vizard's Rule for IM Runner Length

The general rule is that you should begin with a runner length of 17.8 cm for a 10,000 rpm peak torque location, from the intake opening to the plenum chamber. You add 4.3 cm to the runner length for every 1000 rpm that you want the peak torque to occur before the 10,000 rpm.

So, for instance, if peak torque should occur at 4,000 rpm the total runner length should be 17.8 cm + (6 x 4.3 cm) = 43.6 cm.

Vizard also suggests that you can calculate the ideal runner diameter by the equation :

    SQRT [ (target rpm for peak torque x Displacement x VE)/ 3330 ]

    SQRT = square root

VE = Volumetric Efficiency in %

    Displacement in Liters

We measured the stock manifold out to about 16" long and 2.2" diameter. So this = 40.64cm long.So 40.64cm - 17.8cm= 22.84cm more than the 10k rpm ideal length.

    22.84cm / 4.3cm per 1krpm drop =5.311 =5311rpm less than the 10k ideal length.

So the runner length is tuned for 4689rpm for the ideal tq peak.4689= suck

Now the ideal runner diameter for this motor with a manifold tuned to 4689rpm would be as follows.

    sqrt [4689rpm* 2.5l*150% ve(1.5 for the actual calculation)/3330]

I get 2.297" calculated and the actual size we measured it at was about 2.24"

So we have a pretty good idea what they were thinking while they were desigining the intake on these cars.

So now we need to decide what we want to change.I would say we need to add 2500rpm to the power band.Basically we need to lop off about 4.25" off the stock runners(or more).

One of the reasons for the extra long runners is the lack of plenum. The larger the plenum the farther to the low end it shifts your power band.So then we can lop off a little more off the runners.

My recomendations for this motor would be a 2.5l plenum and a 10" long intake runner. This is about 6" of runner above the little TB thinggy sitting on top of the heads.

I would also say a tapered runner would be ideal.

tapered runners are a wast of time if you plan on using the tgvs or TB thinggy as you call it. why would you narrow a runner down to open it up when it hits the tgvs, to narrow it down to go into the head? doing that is going to cause turbulence in a place you don't want turbulence: right by the injector. if you want to achieve the gain from what you been talking about on a subaru you have to delete the tgv housings all together and make the manifold sit on the head not the tgvs.

The TGV is already part of the taper. All you have to do is take out the valves and weld the holes shut.then you can port match the parts to the new heads and the new intake manifold.

exactly but measure the id of the tgv. it is part of that taper and why i chose to not tapper the runner as you said before the tgv housing. and even if you did not tapper the runner before the tgv you still need to use a larger id to make the flow to the housings smoother and match the id of the tgv housings. the only gain you really get by doing what you have stated is is all before the boost threshold. witch helps with spool up and drive ability but a narrow runner is restrictive under boost. short and wide runners in a forced induction manifold will always yield more power.

that would work allot better for what your are saying in your other posts. if torque is what your after then the tgvs gots to go.

Long runner? We are taking the runner length down from 17" to about 10".
