I do kinda wonder how Russ' neighbors would feel about a lung wounded deer dying in their back yard...
Had a great opening weekend. 7 guys total hunted this past weekend. An 8 and 5 point were taken saturday morning and we got lucky to get another 8 and a 6 point on saturday night. Sunday we saw nothing in the morning but I took a small doe right at dusk. 5 Deer for 7 guys seemed pretty good. On monday morning as i was sitting in my stand I had a 9 pointer walk out on me. He dressed out at 163 and to date is the largest buck I have taken. Managed to get all our deer processed and in the freezer as well. Good time was had by all.
I filled our last tag this morning. I took a medium sized doe at 7:15 this morning. I am fairly sure it is the doe that was being chased by the buck I took on Sunday. She came from the same direction, on the same path, stopped in the same places and had the same sized yearling with her both days. This time there wasn't a buck following her so her ticket got punched. This was by far my most successful deer hunting season of my life. I hunted a total of about 7 hours, took four shots and got three deer. It will be tough to top this year but I'll try next year. Good luck to everyone that still has days in the woods ahead of them.
This has been an unusual year for us deer hunters. Everone I have talked to either have not seen a thing or they are seeing lots of deer. Our shack has taken 2 more 6 pointers this week for a total of 8 deer. I think this will go down as one of the most memorable hunts to date for me. We still have 4 management tags we can fill but right now i have almost 80lbs of meet in the freezer with more coming. Now i just need to decide if I want to kill a few more deer or call it at this point.
It sounds like you are considering the right question. To all hunters and anglers, please only kill what you will eat.
We just got our tab from VonHansen's... $1,200.00. :eek4::biggrin::yumyum: Apparently when people ask the guys there "What's the most this will cost" they just reference what we spent the previous year.
North on 53 near Ray. We turn off on road 521. I didn't get up to Orr until 7:30 Friday morning. Turns out the Dam was closed Thursday night when the fam got up there so they went to the muni. They got to see a couple local kids get busted trying to steal liquor. One of them got tackled by some lady as he was trying to run away:eek4:. Wish I could have been there for that.
