So my 2000 OB recently started doing something disturbing. When accelerating you get occasional "pops" that feel like all the power isn't transferring to the road. Our mechanic said it was the catalytic converter, but I'm skeptical. I'm curious if anyone has seen this before.

    Thanks for the info,

    Markus

they can cause a loss of power, does the car smell like rotten eggs? that can be a give away too.

Pull a plug wire out of the head, I bet its soaked in oil, time for plugs/wires/valve cover gaskets.

I'll check that when I get home. Am I doing any damage if my wife drives it for a little while?

As I recall, valve gaskets on the OB are pretty easy...Few bolts. Anything I should be carefull of?

    Thanks again,

    Markus

Thank you! You were correct sir! I award you one point* for properly diagnosing a car via the interwebs.

*points are non-refundable, non-redeemable and have no value, let alone cash value. But that point made you feel good about yourself...didn't it.
