I swear I saw it mentioned on Reddit a while back, so it must've been there for a while already. I feel like I remember someone that was "in the know" (works there or is at least involved) said there was some paint work done to it that they weren't really voluntarily making known. Haha.
With that many miles it is probably due for an engine replacement? The S209’s are numbered aren’t they? That is something I would list in the ad if I were selling it. That would potentially make me less unhappy about the potential motor. Lmao!
Well, so my stories with St. Cloud subaru were. They had a 2006 aspen white STI sedan I was interested in. Pictures of the car were nice, lowish miles and a fair price for a dealer. I call the dealer up and tell them I'm across town (15 minutes tops) and will come buy it if it's still there. The guy I talked to said "yeah i'll set the keys aside and see you soon" or something along those lines. I get to the dealership 10 minutes later (by bicycle) and I'm watching the STI do a sideways exit from the dealership onto division with a couple of kids in it. "sorry it just sold would you like a 2012 forester instead?" I reluctantly bought a 2002 silk green mini cooper instead which immediately had a dead battery from them displaying the cars with the doors open all day and a CVT error that never went away while owning the car. 2 days later St. cloud Subaru calls me back and said that the guys that bought the STI bounced their check and the car was repoed, they could work on fixing the finances since they were still setting everything up for the mini. I get there and the nose cone of the car is pushed up 2 inches and has cracks and grass in the bumper, After pulling a literal corn cob out of the caved in grill I told the sales guy to shove it. 0/10 maybe under luther it's better but I wouldn't buy cars from st. cloud having lived there for 6 years
I’m surprised that you even went back after you watched the kids go sideways out of the parking lot with it. You know that it just saw hard launches and dori dori action for two days. Basically they test drove it for two days and killed it. Lol
I went back to visually remind myself why i didn't want it (and snag the Vin so I didn't accidentally buy it down the line)
They have expanded and taken over the empty lot to the west and it is crazy the amount of inventory they have. I still miss my '05 Legacy GT, but Subaru is dead to me with their love of CVTs and body cladding. They have accomplished what they set out to do, become Toyota with ugly product.
Right? Once I can no longer afford to keep my current fleet on the road and the "vintage" Subarus are no longer affordable I'll be switching to something else.
I looked at the Carfax and noticed a new transmission was put in by the dealership in like March. Sounds like someone had too much fun at track days. There are only two of them currently for sale, but any time I have ever checked they have been $85k plus.
Now that begs the question if they put the right transmission in it. Didn't the S209 have an upgraded transmission (gear ratio or something)
It appears to be that it had an upgraded clutch. But other than that the only additional “upgrade” was the short throw shifter.
Looks like they rebuilt the transmission not replaced it. They said it was due to " A Loud Bearing" and replaced under the powertrain warranty.
Recipe for destroying a 1 of 209 car. Take it to the track everyday you can in Minnesota, beat the piss out of it, trade it in and don't worry about. Sad. If this was in better shape it would be in my garage right now.
Heh i'll agree with you on all counts except the body cladding. I'll agree Subaru went a bit overboard with it, but if it helps keep the rust at bay i'm less fussed. Styling wise though they are dangerously close to Pontiac Aztec ugly on the Gary Busey scale of ugliness (#pepperidge farm remembers)
