I did this on my 1998 Suby 2.5RS so I'm assuming this will work on any GM.

I had been having issues with my stock alarm going off way too often. A loud noise or a pat on the roof would set it off. I went to the Subaru dealership today and asked how to adjust the sensitivity. So since I heard a few other members have had this problem I figured since I fixed mine, I'd go ahead and make a DIY for adjusting it. Here goes.

    1) Remove side plastic screw from lower steering column.

    2) Remove metal screw by hood-pop latch.

    3) There are two plastic clips (one on either side of the steering wheel) that you need to muscle out. I just gave a quick pull where I felt each of them, and they popped right out.

    4) While the lower steering column dangles, locate the small black box labeled "Sensor" here:

    5) Go find a friend with tiny fingers (or just use a pliers) and adjust the white knob counter-clockwise to make it less sensitive , or clockwise to make it more sensitive.

    6) Once adjusted, close the door, lock it, and bang on the car. If the alarm sensitivity isn't where you want it, go back to step 5 and try again.

    A few other quick notes.
-If the red sensor light is flashing twice, pausing, flashing twice, and so on, the car is in "Valet Mode." This mode will allow your keyless entry to work, but the alarm will not activate. You can turn this option on or off by pressing the little red light/button (Yes this is a button. It took me a while to figure this out.)
-If the red sensor light is flashing repeatedly fast, the alarm has been triggered. Grab your brass knuckles and go find that jerk who set it off.
-If the red sensor light is flashing repeatedly slowly, the alarm is armed.
-If the red sensor light is not flashing at all, the alarm is disarmed.

Hope this helps anybody that may need it!
    -Brian

Nice write up, what kind of vehicle is this for?

    *Note*
GD owners with the factory alarm yours is under the plastic e-brake handle surround. Removal of the front tray reveals screw at the front of the e-brake and then the remaining screws are in the center console. Carefully remove any seat warmers, mirror switches or DCCD wires before pulling all the way off. There is then a small (3x5 maybe) black box with a piece of tape above a hole, remove tape and turn screw in or out to achieve disired sensor calabration. Replace with new tape (electrical) and then button everything back up.
