I'm currently looking at getting the HKS legamax, greddy se, perrin quad, or the harman motive exhaust. The you tube videos are not cutting it and I would like to make a decision between thoes for my 08 STi. Right now I'm leaning towards the greddy se but would like to hear these in person if possible. Perrin and the harman motive are 3 inches greddy se is 2.75 inches hks is 2.56 inches hks is releasing a 3 inch version in the next couple of weeks to. I want something that is not crazy loud, has no drone, no rattles, fits like a glove, and will last through the MN winter.
First...you have to find someone with an 08 STi! Then, finding one that has been even slightly molested will be no easy task. We have an 08 STi and have been listening to sound clip after sound clip on youtube. Let me know if you actually find someone with something other than stock on! I would love to hear it too! -Josh
I have an 08 STi on the lift at work that I installed a cat back on yesterday. We will be dynoing it later this morning if you want to come listen to it your are welcome to. You can check the shop links for RS motors.
Hey Matt! Which exhaust is it? I'll be down by the shop today getting my tail lights tinted...I would love to hear it too!
I don't know it didn't come in a box or have any identifying markings. I would have to check with the owner for the info.
ORZ! ebay exhaust? I can not find any high quality videos for the greddy se. I did find some really nice ones for the HKS though. http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2048424-post14.html I wish the hks sounded like that and was bigger. Maybe that 75mm thats comming out in the next few week will be the answer. Heres the others I've found HM This guy gutted his cat so I think thats why theres all the poping noise after getting off the throttle. Hks but this is just the muffler in this video not the full exhaust. I orginaly liked the perrin but some people on IWSTI said something about a whistle sounds comming from the middle/front and I dont want no WOOO WOOOOOOO. Sounds really nice though. Greddy SE This one sounds SICK but its only available in JPN I've heard. Greddy comfort sport. Ill be looking for more info on this one.
I'll see if the woman can post some links for you later of the ones we've been looking at for her 08. I'm conflicted on which one sounds the best so far. The other problem is the fact that some of the videos are catbacks and some are turbobacks. You put a big downpipe on there and the sound is a night and day difference. When i put on my dp i could hear the turbo whine and spool much more.
Yeay and some have = length headers and some do not. Some are catted and some are not. Like in that one video the HM sounds great ex for that horrible buzz on the decell which is probley caused from the de catted cat on that one. But then again I dunno. I think im going to e-mail dan at HM and see if they have a uncompressed video of there exhaust and a catted downpipe. The look of the HM is way better then the perrin I think. The tips look nicer and fill the exhaust bumper hole more and it looks to sit a bit further back. The perrin sticks out almost 1/2 inch from the bumper and has really thin/tiny looking tips in comparison.
ASUjosh has a Magnaflow catback, with everything else stock. I heard it at the Auto-x school, it sounded nice.
I'll be at mowog #2 this weekend. First autox for me Maybe Ill get to see/hear a few different setups. I think there will be 4-6 08's out there.
That was my 08 STI at RS this morning (thanks, Matt!). The catback is a Hayward & Scott model from the UK (sticking with the OEM downpipe for now). I like the sound, but it's definitely louder in the cabin than I was hoping for (wanted something more like the Prodrive on my old bugeye). I'll see if I can get used to it. I'll be at MOWOG #2 also, so definitely come find me (#321 in BSP).
I'll be at MOWOG 1 & 2, and I have the Magnaflow CBE installed. I love it. Took me about 30 minutes to install once I got it in the air, total of about 45 minutes from pulling into the garage to pulling out.
