So I am wondering if this discoloration looks like an exhaust leak, as I am still trying to hunt down the leak that it causing me to run lean, especially at idle after it warms up. Thanks, - Justin K.
I just figured the discoloration meant it was leaking. The crossmember joints don't look like that. Neither do the connections to the Exhaust Mani. Should I just fire it up and spray something on it? Or just take it off and replace the gasket? I've used sea foam in the oil and the gas tank Thanks, - Justin K.
Read up on putting it in the intake, did this to Scuba Steve's car and found his exhaust manifold leak.
It sucks ridiculously slow, err you make it suck slow or the car bogs and stalls, while someone else revs your car around 1K to keep it alive.
well, the gf, but she's watching a movie. Then later the wild game is on I'll figure it out. Got a link to that sea foam info?
it also comes in aerosol form with a spray straw. you also have cable throttle... unless yr swapped. instructions are on the bottle but basically find a vacuum line that feeds the intake manifold... most use the brake booster line... slowly feed 1/4 or so of a bottle. Shut the car down and let sit. 5-10 mins later fire it up and it should be smoking out the tailpipe. Check for leaks throughout the exhaust tract.
so, I fired it up and sprayed some really soapy water on it, and I got some mad bubbles on the top of it....None of the other joints reacted like the one in the picture.
I'm just gonna assume it's that one due to the discoloration and bubbles and continue with the replacement of the gasket...wish me luck. This leak has been evading me for months!
are the torque specs for the uppipe 26ft lbs? I have the service manual, and that's what it says. Just wondering if anyone else, knows any different. Thanks
Normally exhaust leaks leave some sort of carbon track. It should (read: Not Always) leave some sort of black soot on the areas around the leak whether it be a hole in a pipe, or a bad seal between flanges.
I have a little kit that allows you to suck it in as vapor or liquid and allows you to do it right in the center of your manifold not the brake booster side... as that really only does one side of the engine effectively...
Yeah, it didn't seem to help my A/F problems...I'm still running lean at idle. I'm so frustrated!!! Especially after the Wild lost :-/ Though I neglected to perform the seafoam smoke out.
I wouldn't want to risk it landing on the engine...that would suck! I can always man the throttle cable I guess, unless someone wants to help my ass find it.
so I put seafoam in through the brake booster nipple. I did it by myself, so I really wasn't able to see where it was coming out of. But, while I was managing the throttle cable to keep the engine running I did notice smoke coming up from what appeared to be the exhaust manifold. The only thing is, I wasn't able to get the damn thing entirely off the other day, due to stubborn nuts. I did replace the mani-uppipie gasket. I did use liquid wrench on the nuts, but to no avail. I have all the gaskets neccesary, but i may need some help putting them in. If anyone wants to help, it would be greatly appreciated. I probably wont attack it until this week when its warmer. I usually work on it in new hope. Let me know if you could help out. Thanks
okay...so I installed my prosport electric boost gauge today, and I'm showing around 20-30 vacuum. Obviously, I should be running around 7-10. I got on it to make sure it was hitting target boost, which it is, and I heard it. My exhaust leak on the manifold. I have all the gaskets but I need some help taking it off and replacing the gaskets. Who wants to help me? I'm gonna' try on Wednesday. Let me know if you can lend a hand. Thanks, justin k.
