driving on gravel on the way home is nothing like driving on gravel in competition, even if the drive home is "spirited." and besides corcoran isnt all gravel. there is hardpacked dirt and light small gravel that gets swept away and ends up very hard if the conditions are right. a person can do well at this event on high perf. summer tires, or light duty all seasons. heh, i said duty.
Just got back from driving around the UP in the LSPR area. Going back agai in two weeks for a longer stay. No internet, but a lot of gravel roads. Well, with the Plymouth, it's clearly more driver than car. There's hardly any car left! I only wish. If you can find an SR20DE powered Sentra in a junkyard, feel free to taunt me about it. Then tell me where it is because I will go pull every SR20-specific chassis part off of it. They just don't go to the junkyard, because the engine is indestructable.
I will try and make this one. It is so close to home. Thanks for stating that high per summers are decent for this track. That was my main concern. I will go and watch, if not compete. (first rally cross... eep)
As I tell everyone thinking about spectating vs competing - I spectated my first RallyCross (at this venue, no less, back in 03), and I instantly regretted not entering.
even the slowest car out there is more exciting than sitting and watching from a lawnchair. and if the wind is right you will get more dirty in the lawnchair.
I came to the Corcoran event 2 years ago "to watch" but I brought my helmet "just in case." After seeing how gentle the surface is at Corcoran, and with the encouragement of Mark U. and Breon, I competed and haven't looked back since. Do it.... Amy
dammit, still can't decide if I do this and miss the beginning of vaction or not. I know what you'll all say but it isn't that easy to decide. then again, if I skip it, that'll let some other guys place higher lol
got your e-mail about that. we are leaning towards a tube frame but thanks for the offer. i dont want to be too fast
Well I'm officially a SCCA member. No more weekend passes for me:biggrin: Now I can sign up for cheap.
ok....so if you don't swap between runs.....how do you share a car? I've never done any rallycross or anything.....besides ice races.....that dosn't count. sorry for the r-tard questions...
I think what he means is the first driver does all their runs, then switch, then the second driver does all their runs. Rather than switch drivers after every run.
Switching drivers doesn't take up too much time, it's switching run groups that's slow. There should be a 2 second penalty for the last course worker out on the course each switch.
Yes hopfully:biggrin: planning on having the tranny swap-a-palooza next weekend!! Only thing im waiting on is the flywheel... its up in Orr MN in statgsr's broken waggie...
we have had people dawdle and dilly dally in the past and had things become delayed. and yeah i just meant that when you swap after your two runs hurry up anbd switch places. driver 2 should be standing in the staging area ready to go. dont go back to the paddock and have a snack before you run.
Tube frame seats are bad for any type of racing use. The frame can deform, break and puncture the occupant. Aluminum or other type bucket seats are my recommendation 100%. Still sick but improving slowly, Mark Utecht PS, thanks for the assist Carrie.
Glad to hear you are feeling better. When you say it that way it makes me want to keep the aluminum seat and sell the tube frame one for rallyross duty. I do fit in the aluminum one even if it takes Yoga moves to get in and out. Lets just say, after a 3 day weekend, the Leggy is no longer stealthy Amy
Share the photos NOW! BTW, I said I was feeling better. By no means am I feeling good. My vision is so screwed up I have a max of about 20 minutes reading anything. I know I'm whining but too damn bad. Mark
Random question - about how many runs in a typical RX event? Debating if its worth the trek down there or not, esp. with a local autox the weekend before, and Ojibwe the weekend after.
ojibwe isn't the weekend after. it is the 22/23 8 laps is what we've been getting (2 sets of 2 in the morning, 2 sets of 2 afternoon)
 good call... really gotta get more sleep / relearn to read. :hsugh: This has... potential. Might have to write off the autoX.
I am still planning on attending. If I get my 5spd in in the next 2 weeks I will be competing. Do they have loner helmets?
There are 2 or 3 loaner helmets. They are available on a first come basis and must be returned after each run set, so they can be used by others during the opposite run set. Carrie
