I am looking for a downpipe for my wrx, and am just curious if they are all the same, or are some are better than others? And also, does anyone sell downpipes locally?
Grimmspeed sells their own downpipe. I'm sure MAP has some on hand also. The downpipe discussion has been beat to death a lot on here. Some like the divorced wastegate, other's just like the bell mouth. I think it comes down to how much you want to pay and if you want a brand name or not. I'll let other's talk about their choice. My setup is: Stromung Ceramic Coated Divorced Wastegate Downpipe Stromung Hi-Flow 3rd Cat Pipe Cobb 3" cat back My setup was built for no drown in the car, slight rumble, but not stupid loud outside of the car. I wanted to hear my car, but also be able to roll up the windows and talk to someone on my phone. I love my setup. Special thanks on my setup to rm-rf, Idget, and Scuba Steve.

Think about these things -Catted vs. non catted (if you have an '06-'07, I would recomend catted) -Bolting it up to the stock catback? (read donut vs flat flange) From there, you can basically narrow it down to a few pieces and go from there.
From what I've read most of the catless downpipe options are the same. Just grab a used one. No sense in spending 200 bones on a pipe when you can get the exact same thing used for 40 bucks.
Just checked my PM's, Flexure PM Goalie and ask him if he still has the Downpipe. It has a dent in it but I'm sure it won't cause any problems performance wise.
I picked up a flat flange 3" dp tonight , and I have aftermarket 3" exhaust, but the cat back looks like it was designed to work with a stock dp with a donut style flange. I was not able to get the dp all the way on tonight (It is being a major pain the ass, and I got tired of trying to wiggle it into place, probably gonna be a 2 man job, lol), but it looks like there is going to be a gap between the dp and cat back exhaust.... What are my options from here? Have a spacer welded onto the dp? The car is not daily driven, so it is not super urgent...
yea you must have a catback designed for a donut flange instead of a flat flange. someone like nate (tstrboy2004) could make up an adaptor to mate them. downpipe should not be a 2 person job lol
Would he need to have my car to make the adapter, or is it just some generic part he makes? And I dont know why it is being such a PITA to put on, it must be rubbing on something, haha. I can get the downpipe onto the 3 studs, but not enough to start a nut...
I went back out there, and yea Carl, you were right, it is a 1 man job. One of the studs on the turbo was slightly bent, I just gave the stud a gentle tap, and the dp slid right on! Now I need a spacer, lol, there is about a 3/4" gap between the dp and the exhaust, lol.
So I got the downpipe on, but it is rubbing up against the crossmember thingy, is this a bad thing? Circled in red is where it is touching... (note, picture is NOT of my car)
