when I blew the seals on a t25 in one of my nissans I got tons of smoke out the exhaust and tons of oil in the intercooler pipes. can't remember if there was oil in the intake or not

Not necessarily, we have a set of diesels at work that when run with the newer low sulfur diesel and the original oil will not make it more than 250 hours without a tear down and rebuild. For a 5.4 MW diesel, that is a big job. By changing the oil we were able to improve performance to have them run over 1000 hours without any difficulties. Since the change we have not had to rebuild them, so it appears the new oil is working.

Symptoms were similar to what you are seeing. Heavy cylinder scoring leading to high crankcase pressure and excess blowby. What the analysis figured out was that the incompatibility of the fuel and oil were causing the rings to stick in the pistons and push out against the cylinders over a short period of running.

I'd try a different oil next time. At the very least it can't hurt. I run Amsoil 10W40 in my EJ205 running E85 with great results so far.

Powerlabs- good to see you post on MNSubaru again. How's California?

Yes, due to emissions Rotella had lower sulfur contents dramatically, sulfur being a lubricant the oil is no longer as good. Seems like people that raved about using Rotella were breaking in before the sulfur reduction.

I left... I worked for one year in the Special Effects industry in Hollywood... It was a really cool job and I got to travel around the country and abroad, meet famous people and work on some unbelievable stuff:

But my boss got greedy and I started making less and less money... So I quit a year and 8 months ago and I have been working in New Jersey since then, working as a Research Engineer / Project Manager in an Alternative Fuels research company. My hours are a lot more flexible now, the work is very interesting (although not quite as exciting as SFX!), and it pays better, plus I get good benefits.
I do miss show business though :(

/Sorry for going off topic Matt!

Turbo seals would definatly make it smoke terribly.
