Hopefully this goes well, for some reason they were pretty insistent that I run it with no reserve. Might be worried for nothing but I just really don't want it to end up selling for less than it should. In any case, guess I need to start shining it up and find someone to take pictures of it now. Could use the old cell phone camera but I'd expect better photos would get the bids up faster.
Phones are capable of taking great quality pictures. The issues usually lie with the "photographer". More important are things like an uncluttered background, lighting from the proper direction, don't accidentally include your shadow in the picture, etc, etc.
They request a lot of very specific photos (like at least 50-75) plus videos of a cold-start, walk-around, and an in-car while driving if possible. I'll likely do some of them with my phone but I'm sure it would make for a much more enticing listing if I have at least some of the photos taken with a fancy expensive camera. I know a couple people that would probably be willing to do it, but that's also assuming they'd be available on short notice.
I could probably handle a lot of it just fine myself, I take dozens of photos of cars every day at work but that's just for documentation purposes and not really in an artistic way. I'll probably spend the weekend buttoning up a couple things and giving it a thorough cleaning, so the earliest would be Mon-Tue but I'd like to do it hopefully sometime next week.
Sure, if you don't mind running the risk of actually winning the auction and getting stuck buying it, lol.
I didn't say you had to use those pics in the ad. Maybe something for your own personal collection to remember the car by.
I’ve always thought that site was a bit excessive in that department. But I guess one could say “thorough” rather than excessive? Lol
I know C&B partners with a photography service but guessing it's a bit too last minute for your turn around needs. https://carsandbids.com/photos/ If you're willing to pay for photos I have a professional photographer contact I could refer your way. Otherwise I could probably make it happen.
Appreciate it, and I did see in the info they sent me that they offer that. I know a few people that do photography as a side gig so I should hopefully be fine but I'll let you know if that falls through.
They're pretty specific about what photos they want, so I don't know how creative you can really get with them. Mostly just background, lighting, and minor editing for color correction and clarity would be about the extent of it I'd think.
Finally got through the whole application/review and scheduling process, auction is set to go live on Monday 9/25. Really hope things go well and the no reserve thing doesn't bite me in the ass.
Looking forward to seeing it go live. If you accept tire kickers IRL I'd even show up to see it in person, ha. GLWS!
What about the obligatory bare foot pic? I can’t believe that they want all of those photos, and not a single mention of a foot.
I will definitely do that, and me too as long it doesn't end up being a crazy good deal for somebody else.
I wouldn't turn anyone away if they're willing to make the drive out to WI. I think C&B says on their website that's kind of expected even with these online auctions if the potential buyer is local.
Auction is now live and off to a strong start with a bid for $10k within the first hour. Go check it out at https://carsandbids.com/auctions/KYD7a6nL/2002-subaru-impreza-wrx-sedan
Do we start making predictions? Already $12k, but you never know how these go. Might not get more bids until the last day.
I'm not quite sure what to expect myself. Coming into it I was worried it might not even get to where it is now, so I'm already relieved that I'm guaranteed at least that much. I'd be very happy if it goes for at least $15k but like you said, it's hard to predict.
I’m hoping that he see’s at least $18k. Anything less and I’ll be mad that I didn’t buy it. I know the amount of cost and effort it took Cole to dot the i’s and cross the T’s on this car, especially when it comes to the interior. It is a stunning car in person. edit: I know the personal details don’t add value to the average Joe. But it is more about this thing being way nicer than cars that I’ve seen go for more. And I couldn’t have done the interior better myself. Love it I’m pulling for you brother!
How can this thread not even have a link yet? https://carsandbids.com/auctions/KYD7a6nL/2002-subaru-impreza-wrx-sedan
$18k would be fantastic, and I really appreciate that. The monetary investment hasn't been anything too outrageous, but I've definitely put many, many hours into it and I hope that's apparent to any potential buyers. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the time spent for the most part and I'd happily put even more into it. There were still plenty of other aspirations and ideas that never became a reality, and regardless of what it sells for my real hope is just that the new owner will pick up where I left off without undoing much of what it is now.
Real world curiosity question: Does Doug look over every vehicle/listing in order to write up the "Doug's Take"?
Good lord...too much vodka or not enough coffee...I DID look for a post with a link. The blue color of the link looks almost black on my computer, so I went right by it. Is there a setting somewhere to change the color of links being displayed onscreen?
I've wondered that too. It seems like the first portion of it at least is pretty much just a standard script dor the make/model with a vehicle-specific remark at the end, which he may or may not personally write. I don't know how many cars they run auctions for each day but there are about 30 that started the same day as mine so it's possible.
Doug has mentioned he has 2 assistants or so and I would imagine they do all the little legwork. He probably proof reads them and can add a sentence if he feels like it.
