I've got a "little" basement project I'm working on but need help fixing a couple of crappy jobs done by the idiot that put the egress windows in my house before I bought it.

Pictures (I don't know why the 2nd pic is sideways, it's not like that when I look at it elsewhere) -

As you can see, top quality work. Of course no one could see this because the basement was finished when I bought the house. It wasn't until the mold showed up and basement gutted that this was discovered.

    Issues -
1 - I have gigantic leaks around my egress windows. There are two windows, the one pictured is the worst by far but the other one has similar issues.
2 - I need to repair this so I can refinish my basement.
    3 - I HATE CONCRETE
4 - I don't really know how to take care of this properly
5 - I have beer and would rather drink it than work with concrete
    6 - See #3
    7 - See #5

    Sooo, how you doin? :D

Are those only being held there by the foam?

No, don't think so. They are very secure, they just leak water, air, spiders, mice, etc. We climbed in and out of them for days gutting the basement, the boards never budged.

It looks like your main problem is a lack of good framing around the existing window. They tried to use great-stuff expanding foam to cover their install shortcomings.

You should also dig out the well below the window and install river rock for drainage- having dirt at the window level will only lead to leaks. Should be at least a foot below the lowest open section in the block.

This guide does a pretty good job explaining what you need to do.

Their list of shortcomings, to keep it short, is long...

Definitely gonna dig down as part of the repairs.

So let me ask it this way, anyone on here have the time/skills to take something like this on? PM me with any questions or come by and look for yourself, there is complimentary beer on tap ;) (this month is Fulton, Sweet Child of Vine)

Ideally this gets done before I go to Florida mid November...

And because words are hard and the internet often fails to convey thoughts... I don't want to do this work if I don't have to, I'd rather pay someone to do it on the side! But if that doesn't work, I'll end up doing it myself :(

Seemed like Dean whose screen handle escapes me (Subie Lover or something) advertised himself as a handyman who did concrete work.

My time frame is like a cheap whore, sloppy and all over the place lol.

If I knew for sure someone could take it on, timing is flexible. The absolute absolute is having my walls in by the end of '14.

We can have a deeper conversation if that fits in your life!
