The 4eat can be built to hold tons of power, but in stock form you will want AT LEAST a tranny cooler (external) yes the trans will bolt up.
This is what I've been thinking the whole time. To the OP: if you're basing your subaru power goals off your experience driving a toyota avalon, you're going about it the wrong way. My suggestion to you, which isn't part of your original post - if your '02 is in working condition, drive it and get to know it better. They are fun cars right out of the box and if you feel you really want to mod it, buy a turbo back exhaust, uppipe, and get an open source tune. This is commonly referred to as "stage 2". This way you'll know what the increased horsepower feels like and how your car responds to modification and you'll appreciate it more. If you go this route, you'll still be able to use these parts on any future improvements you make. Make sure you install the exhaust parts yourself (with help), as this will help you understand a little better how your car is put together & give you pride that you actually worked on your own car. And just to throw it out there, I think spending your savings on a car build at 16 is the WORST thing you can do. Sure a wrx is a solid platform, but how many other members have the same car now as they did at 16? Chances are your vehicle needs will change, or it will get smashed up, and you'll never see that money you put into your car. Cliff notes: you're young, learn to drive and enjoy your car as it is. Most 16 year olds would kill themselves with a 320 whp Wrx, & if you don't believe me, let us know how much your insurance is (if your parents don't pay it).
My car was completely stock when I got it. I couldn't even drive it right when we took it out for a test drive because it was my FIRST TIME driving a manual car on the street. lolz. I was a total NEWB driver. However that changed quickly as I read more about vehicle dynamics and handling. I learned to drive my car up to the limits lightly modded with a sway bar, 2.5RS springs, coilover sleeves, on all season tires. Then having enough fun that's why I decided to up the power and so I can have more fun because what I was trying to do needed more power and LSD's. That's why I upgraded so I can obtain new driving skills. Even now with the new power with the mods I put on, the car is intimidating. Quick steering, decent amount of power, stiff suspension, sticky tires, quick gearing.... ekkKKK. It's a lot to handle. I am getting used to it though, however the setup is undergoing another change.... lolz Yes I still have my SAME car.... since I was 18. 23 now.
well....ya, that part.... however ok.... it's the same chassis.... lolz!!!! buy this EJ257/5 block!!! Not sure which it is unless I see the pistons for myself.. but is the one to build if you want to build. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31254
I can vouch for the engine and trans, rebuilt buy good folks. As for the rest of the car, I have no idea.
Thank you. Not holding any standards to that vehicle, but power alone its almost neccessary to know that when you hit the gas your car will move, when I jump back in my contour, ive been in a hand me down now for a little while now, and behind the wheel of the wrx, it all seems worth it. Hey, whats bones drivin these days? Hey guys Im trying to study up on subaru's and what works, but all these tabbed browser google forum windows sometimes gives me a headache when Im buried in forum chatter, ha. Ive learned quite a bit on subes lately, and I feel I have made up my mind and would like to work on this ride, but its easy for me to get window shopping but you guys are really slamming this home and I appreciate everything youre doing.
