Does anyone think a electric steering rack from a honda s2000 can be modified to work in a 02 impreza wrx? Car wdth: Wrx 68.1 S2000 68.9 Should just need to create some mounts to bolt the rack to the car and supply the unit with power.
Nothing is ever as easy at it first appears. I suspect there is a power steering control module that varies assist based on road speed. I know from having a scan tool hooked to our Fords that there are diagnostics for the electric PS so I doubt it is as simple as hooking 12 volts to the rack and you're good to go.
the simple answer is the electric power steering pump from an MR2. Racers have been using them for awhile. They are variable, but you just have to feed them a vehicle speed sense and they'll deal. with some circuitry, you can make that adjustable. chassis width is not a good indication of rack with. there are alot more variables required in the geometry of the steering rack. if you want to see if it will work at all, i'd suggest getting down to inner tie rods only and taking some measurements of both racks.. then you'll still need to figure out the electronics and mounting. 100x easier to just plumb an external pump and reservoir.
