K so I'm kinda a newb when it comes to turbos and what not. I recently bought my 05 LGT and after reading up on some of the Grimmspeed parts it has, I think I'm missing a vacuum line on the top of the electronic boost controller. 'Port 3' according to Grimmspeed. I might be way off but I figured someone on here might be able to help out. I've attached a pic of how it looks at the moment. Thanks!!
1 routes back to the intake inlet 2 goes to the wastegate actuator 3 goes to a vacuum/boost source (preferably the nipple off the compressor housing, and if your compressor housing doesn't have a nipple, you can tap off the intake manifold)
Man the center section of your turbo is hella rusty never seen one that bad. The nipple be under or nearly under your intercooler connected to the pipe that runs to the y under your intercooler.
They did yea. I have a front mount intercooler and a different turbo. The video is what led me to think I was missing that vacuum line lol.
Here is a video for a 02-07 WRX/STI. I don't know how different/same the legacy is, but it may give you an idea of what to look for. never mind..... too late
Pretty sure having a front mount has nothing to do with installing a BC. It also appears you have either a td04 or vf series turbo. since that what grimmspeed makes for wastegate brackets. unless you have a blouch. video should show you what you need to do. I also hope you saw the warning of getting your car tunned when using this EBC.
If you live near Maplewood, stop by around 430pm and we can compare engine bay compartments. I'm confused just looking at yours. It'll be a 5 min fix hopefully.
Does it run and hit the proper peak boost with that setup? I would be a bit surprised it if wasn't overboosting badly. On their solenoid I believe ports 2 and 3 are NO and port 1 is closed. When voltage is applied port 1 and 3 are open and 2 is blocked. I really don't see how any air would be getting to your wastegate actuator (1 and 2 are never open to each other). Maybe I'm misunderstanding...? You should definitely hook it up per the video above. But keep in mind that it will likely need a re-tune after the issue is corrected.
I have heard you will overboost without tuning it. I would run left over hose from your boost nipple to the waste gate or just run your oem BC and just route the hoses and just hook up when you get to NF to have it tuned.
I'll gladly go anywhere to get the car looked at/tuned/fixed/compared/whatev. I've had it for about a week now. Seems to run fine, it's certainly fast! I just want to make sure everything is right. I received zero infromation about the previous owner so I'm pretty in the dark when it comes to the mods. Love the car and want to do everything right.
"The Dr" helped out a ton! Couldn't get the car to get past 11psi tho I'm taking it back to NF on saturday for further diagnosis
