I already posted this on the mnautox.com forum, but I might as well ask here, too... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, I'm up for this. Can someone please explain how these sessions work ? I'm going to have to bring my 3yr old along for the ride, and he's only going to find this entertaining for a while. Having an assigned time slot would be tremendously helpful. Also, do the car owners do the actual dyno runs, or do the shop staff do that ? I'd like to hook up my laptop and get a log of the runs with ECUexplorer. It'd be interesting to see how the AFRs that shows compare to the AFRs from the shop equipment. Stuart.
i might be in depending on the date. i wanna baseline my car from stock (or near stock) although i am kinda scared to se my low numbers.
With a lot of people scheduling will be tight. If you are attempting to tune or datalog, keep in mind that's not what dyno days are for, they are for getting baseline pulls and it will slow the day down. It takes a while to stap cars in and do the pulls, if someone is trying to datalog or tune and fighting with their equipment setup etc. it can make one car take much longer than another car. AFAIK dyno day discounts are given because there is the presumption that everyone is jsut doing base pulls. How it works is you drive the car onto the dyno, they strap it down and set it up and then do two or three pulls. the car comes off the dyno and the next person is up. pretty simple overall. If your datalogging hooks up to the car before it gets on the dyno and doesn't need to be messed with while its running then that would probably be ok. If you are sitting in the car trying to tune it, then it might not be a great idea. The dyno itself may not have too much kid friendly appeal other than its loud and there is a car on top of it. I wouldn't want a 3 year old wandering around too close in the shop though, but if you can keep him entertained then by all means bring him by.
I'm not trying to tune with the laptop, just log. And it just connects via the OBD2 port, and can be set up and left running ahead of time, so that shouldn't pose any problems. As for scheduling, I'd just be looking for a window of time, e.g. somewhere between 10am and 11am. I don't expect to be given an exact slot, like 10.37am kind of thing. The only thing I want to do that *might* slow things down is that I want to pull the exhaust silencer out after the first run, because I want to know, not speculate, how much difference that thing actually makes. It's only held in with a single 11mm bolt, that I can whip off in about 30secs. Quinn likes cars and people, and I can keep a close eye on him for most of the time. I'm trying to get a friend to sign up, too, so they can look after him while I'm busy with The Magic Car (his own name for it). Either we both go, or neither of us do. That's pretty much what it boils down to. Stuart.
Stuart, Most of our dyno days run pretty quickly. The best bet would have your car on first, that way we know when it is going on (say 10:15ish am). It is fine if you want to pull the silencer between pulls, so is datalogging if I don't have to wait 5 minutes for your equipment to be setup. Our staff straps and drives all the vehicles on our dyno and within/around our shop. A small child being at the dyno day would probably not be recommended. Our facility is not really "child friendly" without close supervision.
I have visited the facility before, and like any shop, I know it is not a kid friendly environment without the close supervision you mentioned. The friend I spoke of is keen to sign up, but is waiting for his approval email for this forum before he can chime in. Two on one is a good ratio for closely supervising a child. I'm OK with going first. What time should we arrive ? I'll call next week about sending you payment. Stuart.
I'm in! I'm the friend Stu mentioned to watch the kiddo while he does his logging and yanks his silencer and stuff. I'm also, of late, the very proud owner of a heavily modified '94 'Stang Cobra that wants to have the thing dynoed to find out exactly where the previous owners got to in terms of HP and where I need to go next. I also want to observe the dyno process with an eye toward tuning the Hypertech ECU... no idea how much THAT costs, but I'm going to have to have it done anyway eventually. That, and a supercharger, and headers, and 3.73 final and traction bars... HUH? Oh, was my mind wandering to performance mods again? Sheesh... I haven't been able to follow this thread in full lately, so here's a quick question... what do I do to prepay for this event? Thanks, J
This is still going to happen right? 1. Techy101 (Matthew) 2. Mnstilynwrx(jake) 3. Robbyrex (robby) 4. Wrxpeed (bryan) 5. Mushashi (Cheech) 6. badbennyb (Ben) 7. kickin_81 (Fong) 8. LegacyPGT (Mike) 9. esperunit (zak) 10. idget
Yeah I could maybe make this too, any deadline on when we have to be in by? I too would probably want to run some data logging, but who ever is running the car should be able to do that for me with the defrost button, I think.
Is the most recently posted list just missing me, or am I #11, or do I need to do something other than say "YES! I'm in! to get my name on the list? Thanks, Jared
Got it... Thanks. 1. Techy101 (Matthew) 2. Mnstilynwrx(jake) 3. Robbyrex (robby) 4. Wrxpeed (bryan) 5. Mushashi (Cheech) 6. badbennyb (Ben) 7. kickin_81 (Fong) 8. OK OK, never mind... it was a reasonable question!
Any objections to spectators ? My neighbour turned into a drooling mess when I mentioned the magic phrase "Dyno Day", but he doesn't have anything to run on it at the moment. He tells me he might like to come and hang out, though. Bye for now, Stuart.
I think I am in. I would like to get a baseline before I start modding out the grocery getter. How is payment being handled? Is there a max # that can attend? 1. Techy101 (Matthew) 2. ^^^I don't think there is a max number but it isn't a huge shop so it can be a bit tight with everyone wanting to be front and center during pulls. From what i understand there will be food there and It would be nice if everbody could pitch in a bit.
Since Techy101 won't be able to make it and people seemed to look over his post, here's the new list: 1. Mnstilynwrx(jake) 2. Robbyrex (robby) 3. Wrxpeed (bryan) 4. Mushashi (Cheech) 5. badbennyb (Ben) 6. kickin_81 (Fong) 7. LegacyPGT (Mike) 8. esperunit (zak) 9. idget 10. ArmchairDeity (Jared) 11. stooo (Stuart) 12. yamie700 (Bryan)
Ok, I'm game as well... Add me in also Josh. I'll be pulling my minivan to see what it's got so far. Just waiting for that exhaust to come in.
I'd like to cap this at 20. It looks like MNEVO has some interest, so lets call the list "full" at 15 for over here. We will go all day to get it done. We will be cooking burgers as well. Spectators are welcome, but space is tight.
A post over on the MAC forum said that Josh said that this is for Subarus and Evos only. (That sentence sounds so childish. Oh well.) Is that true ? If so, it's a shame, as we have at least one Mustang on the list, and it'd be kind of mean to exclude him at this point. Stuart.
This IS a MNSubaru dyno day I think it was extended to Evos as well. I guess it could have been more clear that this wasn't an open dyno day. At the last Dyno day (That I was at) Subarus went first and at the end of the day a few "others" got on. I think that would be a fair plan this time too. I don't know if its that much trouble but it also keeps the dyno operaters from having to set up the dynos for different type of cars. It is up to the shop if they want to run a bunch of different set-ups. I don't think anybodys trying to be mean.
I need to know for sure... I'm on the list (#11), but if it's an Evo VS Subie day there are at least 2 people (me and Bryan) that should be taking our names off the list because we're both bringing Mustangs. Perhaps I misread, but I thought the EVO vs Subaru idea was shot down because there were other cars that wanted to come. Could someone please give a definitive answer? I would really like to know what's going on... Thanks, J

Sux, cuz I really wanted to participate... fortunately LSE said we could get the MAC guys together and get the same deal as the Subie club. I dunno if Stooo is still going to come or if he'll come with the MAC crowd, so I'll leave his name on the list for now. Thanks for making the offer at all, though, Josh... Laterz, J

**** add me to the list.. sorry for not looking at the other posts but do you have to prepay or can i do it the day of
what would the timeframe be? my girlfriends family is planning a trip down to valley fair that day, I might take my car and drop by for a pull. but it would depend on the timing with our schedule. also...can your dyno do FWD cars too? I'm not sure if I'll have my driveshaft in by then....
Definitely interested, couple of logistical questions: - Do I need to be there all day or is it possible to narrow down the time slot a bit? - What brand dyno is this? - How do you prepay? whoa whoa. I haven't checked the thread in a week and all of a sudden i'm being banished because of the car i drive. I was one of the first to reply and get in on this "dyno day". What's the deal?

Hopefully LSE replies as to the extra interest. It looks like it may have to be a multiple day event though if everyone is in.

MN AutoX (MAC) is also organizing a dyno day in october, fyi. I want this to be all awd cars as it just makes life easier on that day. Bryan, I noticed you are signed up. Since you were one of the original ones on the thread/signed up I will be just fine dynoing your cobra. I hope that doesn't offend anyone else. Otherwise if you want to go on the MAC day I will honor the $50 as that is more of a "cluster" of cars and drivetrain configuration, it is your call. I allowed this to be posted cross board as I thought it would be an issue to get 10 cars, now that I have people beating me down on wanting to dyno, I have to have more dyno days. Thanks for the business guys/gals! If anyone has any questions or concerns feel free to call me.
Thanks Josh, I really appreciate it. You can understand my frustration when I've been a member here for quite a while and was one of the originals to sign up for this event and then from all others wanting in, getting denied myself. I'll be there on saturday bright and early with the only Ford  . On a second note, will this be a block scheduled event; such as starting at a certain time and going in order in which the people signed up?
