Gotta bump this thread. Currently dealing with idiot neighbor who decides to yell obscenities at me/wife after the cops give her a ticket over yer yappy dogs. Does it ever occur to these people that they themselves or their dogs are at fault?

Dogs that bark incessantly without stopping is extremely annoying, and tells everyone in the neighborhood of their indolent owners.

Some barking isn't bad, but in cases like my neighbor, where the dog barks constantly at nothing is a little ridiculous. Of course, everyone's definition of what a lot of barking is varies.

This is true but it also depends on the dog. I have two dogs, same breed but different breeders. One barks and one does not. The one that barks used to bark at everything because that is what the other dogs did when they were puppies with the breeder. It took a lot of work but we got him to stop barking at everything... but he still barks at some things. I want him to bark when someone is on my deck, in my home, or something of the sort. I don't want him to bark at the wind, kids, people walking by, or animals in the trees. I have about a 90% success rate at getting him to bark when he should be... but he is a dog, actually he is still a puppy.

Sometimes it is the owner, but most times it is the dog. It could be that they never socialized it, it could be a bad past, it could be the dog is mentally retarted (like mine)... it could be anything. At that point it is up to the owner to put in the time to stop it, or give up... sometimes the owner doesn't have the tools to stop it, or the money to pay for a trainer, or time... but then should they have a dog? not up to me to answer.

here is the real question. does it really ruin anyones day or are people just unhappy with life and looking for something to take their anger out on?

It may not ruin my day, but if it's a nice cool night and half the neighborhood is sleeping with the windows open, it's pretty damn rude to just tune the dog out and let it go ape**** all night. I've been there before. Thankfully everyone in my neighborhood is very considerate and it doesn't happen.

true, I also do not enjoy a barking dog... but I own a mildly smart, mostly dumb dog and he likes to bark, my other one is cool. Well, they are both cool, but one can be more annoying that the other. I was just speaking on behalf of my experiances with my dog. Believe me I don't know all there is to know about dogs (or most things in life). Just what I have found.

I will say that I am a little bitter on the subject. Our neighbor doesn't socialize the dog, and doesn't do anything with it for that matter. Its not the dogs fault, although I've though about tossing a bloody sponge over there...

There is a happy medium between never barking and barking 50 times a minute, which is what the moron's dog next door does.

we have been living in our new house for about 6 weeks. EVERY house around us has a dog except us. the neighbors dogs are finally getting used to us (the house was empty for 9 mo.). they would bark at us every time we went outside, every time i went to the other side of the house, everytime i went in and out of the garage, every time i got up from the patio table and every time my kids played loudly. it was starting to get really annoying.

now it seems to have lessened a bit. it didnt ruin my day but damn did it get old really fast.

I see 2 sides in this, I have one neighbor with a small dog that lets the dog out at all hours and then only lets it in after it has barked for 5 minutes. or better yer when I am doing yard work it sits at that corner of their lot and barks at me like i am robbing them. I tired to talk to that neighbor, they would not open their doors. So I called EP's finest and was told that the officers would drive by and only stop if they could hear the dog. a few months later I was out back and the dog was barking at me I walked to my property line and the neighbor came walking toward me saying "are you going to call the police?" So I did!

My other neighbor across the street has 2 larger dogs that bark every once and a while never for much more than 2-3 minutes, and hardly ever if they are outside. I have never even talked to this neighbor about his dogs, they bark, I don't like it, I get over it.

I will take alot of different crapm from neighbors, but if they are not willing to face me about it, then things go south quick!

I have a yippy dog. She's quiet in the back yard unless she sees another dog, squirrels, Someone she knows, or (the worst) the neighbors cat. She barks at other dogs because she's actually a very social dog and likes to meet new people and dogs.

At night we always make sure to bring her inside if she's barking a lot. During the day we try to keep it at bay, but **** happens. The neighbors next to us have a golden that barks all the time also, so it's not just me.

Late at night dogs barking does piss me off. I am always out in a heartbeat getting my dog between the hours of 9pm and 9am.

Though I must say, my neighbors subs in his car piss me off way more then the dog.

super lame, i feel your pain. that sucks

+1 and he only seems to bump it after 11pm. I really don't care that much... but it is lame of him. you would think he would stop after the 2nd time someone broke into his car... but no, he just wants to keep funding the car thieves with new speakers.

    awesome

ok I will say that dogs barking when "normal" people are trying to sleep is rude. people should be smarter than that... but for some reason the government lets them keep breeding.

My sister had the same situation with her beagle. They used one of those bark colars. It worked really well and it isnt very intense I tested it out when they got it haha. Its just enough to let the dog know its doing something wrong. Some people are against shocking dogs but this was hardly anything and he still learned pretty quick. Just an Idea

Nope. He has eight vehicles and two trailers on a 65 by 165 lot. The place is a dump.

I wish I had a picture of the time he was outside with a leaf blower in one hand and a piece of pizza in the other. Lazy man is lazy...

SHO - there was a kid that used to live by us in New Brighton and his license plate had the abbreviation for "DANGER ZONE"

I am not narrow minded enough to say that I have something against SHO drivers... but I put them typically at the bottom of the list. They can sit there with all the other people that have Bricks for cars but think that a big HP rating will some how make their car fast even though the car weighs like 5000 lbs.... also at the bottom of the list Cinnamon :)

my neighbor here in Duluth is exactly like that. they've got this pit-bull, and I don't think it's ever been off the property. spends all of it's life, tethered in the back yard. 5 years I've lived here, and it still barks at me like it's going to kill me every time I walk through my own yard.

now there are 2 rabbits in a cage in the back yard. I've been tempted to call the cops, but they'd probably see that my wagon has expired tabs and give me another abandoned vehicle notice.

I have a cat.....she can annoy me. and nobody else.

ROCK! let me know and I will bring out my puppy and they can bark at eachother. We'll have to crack a beer and wait for one of them to give up. If i have enough of a heads up I will some how make some sort of a cage so they can't sniff eachother.... they can just see eachother and bark. it should be about a 6 pack worth of entertainment.

    :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: I love it.... CARL!

Im pretty sure that most cities have a 10pm noise ordinance. So if they are complaining of the dog barking.... just turn up your stereo until it drowns out the dog.... we are Minnesotans so lets be passive aggressive about it

with nothing over them, outside, 24/7, rain or shine, zero protection from the elements. I've also never seen any sign of cage cleaning.

not really illegal. and it's not like rabbits aren't water proof.....but why have them if all you're going to do is feed them.

Haha, where did you find that about 10-15 minutes? It all depends on the city code where you live. For instance where I use to live it said the following directly from the city code website.

    (3) Nuisances and running at large.

    d. Noisy animals. No owner of an animal shall permit barking, howling or other noises that disturb the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.
