    Hey everyone,
    I have a quick question.
I have an 02 sedan with a HKS hi-power cat back.
Now, I put this on at a buddies shop, so I thought it would be good, but since it has developed a leak between where the original exhaust and the hks connect.
I tried tightening the bolts, but all they did was break. I have some crappy autozone bolts on now, but need to fix this the right way.

I called the local subaru parts department to see how much the oem gasket was, and he told me people have been known to double these up. Has anyone heard of this? I figure if I get new oem bolts, and 2 OEM gaskets, maybe it'll seal better. Sorry for the long read, and thanks for help in advance.

    *cliff notes*
    Hks exhaust
    Has exhaust leak
Can I put on 2 gaskets?

Yeah, doubling up gaskets is fine. Or get one of those massively thick graphite crush gaskets.

I don't quite understand? Are you talking about doubling the donut gasket?

the donut gasket cannot be doubled up...its probably just time for a new donut gasket (if your car has stock dp)

So you're going to use a flat gasket where a donut gasket should go?

I really dont know what I'm going to do. I was hoping to get an answer on what exactly to do. I want to do it correctly.
To tell you the truth, I really dont know the difference, can anyone tell me what IS supposed to be used?

I think we all need more information man. What kind of downpipe do you have? Stock? If aftermarket, what style flange is it? Flat or donut (stock)?

to do it correctly you will have to have a flat flange welded on there...

or just get a flat flanged dp which would cost almost the same as having a new flange welded on there....

You might try picking up some of that exhaust gasket in a tube stuff. Coat your stock doughnut gasket in it and put it back together. There is a chance that the exhaust gasket goo will fill in the gaps and you will be set.

The true way to fix it is to get a new DP or flange put on so that you can jut use a normal exhaust gasket.

Also Grimmspeed in St. Paul carries Remflex gaskets which are the thick crush type. They work very well I have used them to fix some pretty bad leaks.

if you were around I could fix it simply..

go get some gasket maker.. HI TEMP... loud that b***h up and allow it to tack up a little then tighten down... done...

(not the perfect solution but a quick fix till you can solve it correctly)

^^ or just do it right first time ;)

Okay... (shuffles feet in aukward motion, sliding heel on the ground)

I'll have to weld my flat flange on.

    ok, Its fixed.
I went to Subaru this morning and bought all the parts the parts guy said was needed.
When I got home and ripped it all apart, I noticed that a flat flange was already welded on, so the only thing I had to use was the tapered doughnut gasket and the original bolts and washers i had on there. I also put a bead of Hi-temp gasket sealer around the seals. I just drove 120 miles and it has ZERO leaks. SO, tommorow, I'm going back to the dealership to return all the springs and screws I didnt use.

    Thanks for everyones help!

So you used a donut gasket on two flat flanges?

    This thread confuses me!
