I am interested in getting a lip on the front of my '14 XT. The ones I really like are in the $300.00 ball park right now, and while they are super sweet and add wicked speed, I struggle to justify purchasing something that has the potential to take a beating during MN winters (or maybe that is still the WRX mentality I had when I looked into putting a lip on the 04...). I've seen EZ Lip on eBay and Amazon plenty, but I am curious if anyone has ever tried it. A few quick questions. 1. Is installation as simple as it appears? 2. How does it hold up? 3. Does anyone have photos of an EZ Lip installed? I'm still not totally sold on it, but am curious as to others experiences.
I just went to Home Depot, bought a garage door foam seal and a roll of 3M outdoor mounting tape. Measured and cut the tape and seal to length, then apply to the bottom of the bumper after thoroughly cleaning it. That lip lasted several years on the front of a lowered civic in winter before I decided to take it off myself. Even when taking it off by hand, it didn't want to come off. It will be a little cheaper than the EZ lip you speak of as well. The garage door seal is about $10 and the tape is $6 or less.
Don't buy EZ Lip. It's actually garage door weather stripping and you can buy the exact same stuff at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. for half what they're charging on ebay. I was in the same boat, I'm not paying $500 for a Subaru lip which was the only one I could find. Installation was simple, I purchased a quality 3M tape to install it. I also added some bent aluminum pieces behind it to help it maintain form during highway speeds. It's kind of hard to photograph.
Thanks for the feedback. I have found some replicas that are a little more reasonably priced. I have read some guys have purchased WRX lips to put on Foresters. Does anyone know if that is true? EDIT: I believe I have been misinformed on the WRX fitment.
Not 100% applicable to your inquiry, but I put on a DIY lip, as mentioned above, myself this winter. I got garage door bottom from Fleet Farm (actual rubber, where almost every other home improvement store sells EPDM, aka, ****ty foam). Used some rivets from work to hold it on and hasn't been fazed by anything all winter. Probably $20 total into it. But, also doesn't look quite as fancy as those $300 pre-molded plastic ones.
