I bought a factory boost gauge off a guy on nasioc and I got it today. I was disapointed when I opened the box to see the wires and hose has been cut off about 1'' from the gauge. Is this even able to be hooked up now? I know the hose could be spliced with some connector or something but what do i do with the wires? Any info/help would be helpfull. Thanks, Jacob
butt connectors could do the wires, you could get a nipple for the hose, i dont know what the back of a factory boost gauge looks like so i dont know for sure.
IIRC, the stock gauge just has a two wires, a power and ground, correct? You should be able to extend the wires to wherever you're tapping each of those with any normal 14-16 gauge wire. As for the hosing, you should be able to buy the correct size vaccum hosing at any hardware store. Most gauges have a nipple on the back of the gauge where the hose mounts.
Would anybody be willing to help me install this? I am new to electrical stuff and really don't want to mess this up.
To be honest it's actually pretty easy to install. I just installed a vacuum gauge/pod on the forester and it went pretty smooth. Even easier on a turbo'd car since you can just tap the line into by the wastegate. Where is St. Anthony Village? I'm guessing it's by the cities but if it's not too far from Eau Claire I wouldn't mind helping you install this. Also check ScoobyMods, I think there is a thread on the factory boost gauge install! As for the power for backlight, tap into your cigarette outlet
Did the gauge come with the T-fitting for the vacuum hose? Also, did it come with the restrictor pill?
Your threads are always so interesting. I can never predict the ending... Is there a market for stock boost gauges? If so, I might put my old one up for sale...
You might be able to get good money on Ebay, I think a lot of owners buy them on there and don't know what they are really worth because they compare that price to what the dealer would charge.
