Yeah I have learned a few things the past 2 years... I guess I just hadn't learned enough last year. But this year I am shooting for 2nd to last place
lmfao. It wasn't nearly as bad as the family league I played in last year where the 3rd overall pick was the Vikings defense.
gotcha buddy I didn't make time to set up a league so I'm shooting for this weekend. Please pm me your email address by this Friday. babiker, if we get to 10 teams I think I'm going to keep it at 2rb, 2wr, 1flex. Unfortunately, this group has proven to ba a bunch of hoarders. Since no one trades (or seems to know what a reasonable trade is *cough*Derek*cough*), I want to make sure the roster size is reasonable and the free agency is active. Oh, and let the **** talking begin.
I will trade you the Vikings Defense for Vick... oh I already have Vick.... then I will trade you Brett Farve for...... PM Sent.
Also, what does everyone think of having a defensive flex (lb/db/dl)? I'm a defense guy so I want one. If no one else does then I'll drop it. Also thinking about using a qb/wr/rb/te flex instead of the wr/rb to keep things interesting. If the majority prefers wr/rb then I'll stick with that.
I think we should just stick to standard, but majority rules so it's up to you guys. Usually the more complex games are reserved for big money leagues, because they take more time for research etc. But like I said, I'll go with whatever the majority wants.
I hear you on that, Goalie. We're not quite to the point where we're using leaguesafe, but on the flipside, I think with some more strategy involved we can groom some folks into being more competitive. How about this. I just finished setting up the league, so once I collect all emails I'll send out an email invite with info, then reply with any objections to roster, scoring, etc... I'll use my best judgement to decide what's fair and fun for this league and make changes as applicable. Anyway, please get your email addresses to me by this Friday. Let's also decide on a time/place by this Friday.
So where do people live? I know that Maplewood / Roseville is by myself and Sheen. It is only about 20 minutes away from Brian's... and we aren't doing the uptown thing so where else do people live? North Burbs? West?
D flex is a pain in the ass, at the end of the season people always complain, that a stat should be scored higher or lower for particular positions. Otherwise players in one position don't get scored for their actual value. It just always turns into a mess. If you want to go deep game strategy we might as well do independent D players. Also having QB flexes makes it a pain in the ass, because the QB free agent pool is always dry. If 1 or 2 of your QBs gets hurt, you are screwed for the season, especially on Bye weeks. I would also suggest we do an auction draft. As fun as Snake drafts are, it's always really tough for the teams in the middle of the pack to put together strong teams. the teams at the top and the very bottom have a huge advantage. Not saying the teams in the middle can't win, but it is tougher. With an auction, every team owner has a chance at every single player, the draft has a lot more strategy because you are not just following whatever the fantasy ranking guide says. It makes for a much more entertaining draft.
You can get around the qb flex by having a 2 qb per roster maximum. We can skip dflex but we play full d in my other league so i wanted to see if anyone here was interested in dabbling. I was thinking auctio style draft too but didnt see it in the options for nfl.com. ill check again.
If you just want something different lets do independent D players. I've never done an auction with IDPs, sounds crazy and fun at the same time. I'm still not big on the QB flex. RB/WR/TE flex is fine. There's other thing you can do to make it different/interesting. negative QB points for sacks, points for smaller chunks of yards(5 yrds=1point), negative kicker points for missed field goals, special team yardage points.
Already set up special teams pts and negative pts for missed pats. .5 ppr. Bonus for long runs, passes and fgs.
I vote no D/IDP. Keep flex to WR/ RB. I still support 3 WR as a variant. I'm okay with an auction draft or snake, I do both regularly. I think the variants you are trying to add to make it more interesting will actually unbalance teams given it seems there are several n00bs in this league. Keeping it to a straightforward position like WR reduces that risk. (For example in your QB/RB/TE/WR flex smart people will snag 2 elite qb's and ride that to pound town where as we all know at least one idiot will use it for a TE or ****ty WR who was supposed to be good, etc. etc.) IDP would be even worse with that. I actually would say that 3 WR leagues are a safegap against hoarding as long as you don't totally suck at drafting as it gives you more options when someone is holding the elite depth.
ESPN is just ok. NFL is better. I say Yahoo or NFL, it seems like most people are used to using yahoo.
I like ESPN. I also use yahoo for another league. My aversion to NFL is just that I would just really prefer not to have to use 3 sites for the different leagues I am in. It gets annoying
Well, I already set one up on nfl.com since I have 2 other leagues on yahoo. If someone can give me a good reason to switch I'll do it. Otherwise, we'll use nfl.com again this year.
ok so I have never played but I LOVE football would anyone be interested in teching me how to play? I can do tues at har-mar its not to far from me.
Ugh sorry guys. Crazy busy week. I should have an email with details ready tmw. If for any reason you dont want everyone else to see your email addy lmk
It's cool dude, let me know if you need any help. Also I am happy to call BWW and set up a draft night if you need me to. We just need to decide on a location. I am still open to Maplewood and Har-Mar/Roseville.
Could you? That would be awesome! I got in late today and I have a lot of catching up to do. fml I called Har-Mar and they have openings 8/30 and 8/23. If we do Harmar it should be on 8/23 since the State Fair will be going on 8/30. The other place I haven't called yet is Station 19 on campus: 612-617-9464 2001 SE University Avenue Suite 100 Minneapolis, MN 55455 The only thing I wasn't sure about was parking. They have a lot adjacent to the building but it might be contract parking only. Again, 8/23 is prefered at that location thanks to State Fair park and ride. Although 8/30 would work too and it wouldn't be nearly as bad as har-Mar on the 30th. Otherwise, I'm drafting up the email with the registration and league details now. If you don't see something from me within the next 12 minutes, I'll have it out after lunch.
I can call and setup 8/23 tonight after work. So if people have a better place than Har-Mar and they would like to voice their opinion please speak up now. I would like to avoid the UofM campus because it might as well be uptown at that point. Parking is not the best, I know from living down there during college. So anyways, Har-Mar Buffalo Wild Wings or say something. 8pm start
