So its been a few years since I was a regular post whore in here, but since getting out of subarus I just got busy with life.. I have dropped by from time to time to catch up.. anyways here is what I have been doing the last few months... Many of the older members will remember when I had my shop I had purchased a 1st gen RX7 that I ended up removing the running gear and selling.. paid $400 and sold the engine and trans back to seller for $300.... $100 car... then... currently: 13brew running gear my kids have been helping a lot.. my oldest daughter a lot... basically stripped the engine down and painted a bunch of things... made some custom parts
so I copied a setup that a company online makes and bought all my own parts and built some rear coilovers, machined the rotor of the original hubs so I can add straight rotor replacements from later models, making custom brackets to mount later model 4pot calipers, totally stripped all the deadener out of the car due to 4 or so mouse nests and plenty of pee smells (sat in a shed for 12yrs)... tracked down a rear seat (rare option in the US) and ended up being from the 2nd gen rx7.. so having too much invested into it we made it work... built a frame, built some brackets using brake slides and a packing brace.... and now it mounts like factory...
a buddy helped paint the engine bay.. originally wanted the m2 blue but difficult to find and also water based so needed different equipment.. (the whole car will be painted for under $500) the final paint wont be done till the car is running and almost on the road... ironically the color I chose ended up being from a factory car back in Australia...
link to facebook album... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150749927167921.401156.504602920&type=1&l=aaca80db64 motor colors when I purchased, after cleaning and painting... had to make a custom adapter to take up some slack as I didnt want the springs to be loose if suspension was hanging on a lift etc.. also made another spacer (machine a ss nut, due to using Tokico shocks where the shafts is a lot larger than most aftermarket shocks... the spacers the kit came with didnt have a big enough thru hole..
Good to hear from you and see your updates! Looks like a fun project! Lets see some more shots of your shop and tools
the real expensive looking tools aka QCI measuring probe, mills, lathes and flowjet are from my work... hahaha as far as machinist tools I have a welder, and a grinder so the process is slow.. measure go to work (an hr drive) work, during lunch or stay late I make parts, come home, test fit.. take to work next day try to make it right haha
Mariah kit?? $50 Id take the kit of straight away hahaha... How much would you be asking for that>???
Oh I know what you said................................ Im still waiting on Sheens price..... may stop my build to purchase his rx7
Looking to sell whole car for around $3k (2 sets of wheels, extra carb, exhaust, etc) but might consider parting out.
Yeah it's more of a drive it as is or a project starting point type of car. I do have a 302, t5, wiring harness, ecu, and s/c that I'm flip flopping about packaging with it. My timeline and enthusiasm to start the v8 swap project has expired... who knows tho... maybe seeing your project (which was also shelved FOREVER) will light a fire under my ass. Subscribing either way.
dont ruin a great car by putting a v8 in it.. purist man... or if you do do it.. let me know I may take the rotory engine...
8 Thats what she said... Evryone wants to ride her but nobody wants to maintain her.. Bieve me.. Whats going in isnt purist.. But sure is a lot better than a clunky ol v8 But I dont care... Im to busy being here...
If nothing else, flip it upside down while he is in Australia so there is an accurate representation of him.
Then he would have to sit on my face... oh wait.. Still enjoying Oz.. another week.. itching to get back and get working on the car...
Some pics from Oz for those who care and use fb https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154492139817921&type=1&l=b2bf117d30
Not sue what pic.. bit I assume within the first 20 photos... so it's actually called a kebab or shawarma here.. little different than a gyro but close
no updates... got back from 5 weeks in Australia, got a huge tax bill from selling our business 8yrs ago.... yay.. so build is on a pause right now... kinda...
Decided to throw the engine in and look at it... been slowly trying to develop my brake kit.. but been busy so no real progress.... designed and setup for milling.. just havent gotten around to it.. also got sidetracked fixing my kids custom bike...
I need to update this some.. though havent done a lot due to a huge tax bill and my budget being decimated.. well my wifes Father passed and she got some money and she said that her Dad (who had a couple of strokes before I met him 16yrs ag0) wouldve been right alongside me building the car so she wanted to give be some money towards it.. ended up with a little more than double what I had left of my original budget... so the build is back on again soon... updates will happen again
Sorry for your loss, Nate. Bittersweet way to come into some money but happy to hear the build is back on. Looking forward to seeing the progress!
thanks.. He was an amazing man..was hard to see him fade the last few years.. but no more suffering..
