started buying some things again.. Momo race... I had one on my old 81 12turbo 1st gen back in Australia so I had to suck it up and drop $220 on one... so amazingly sexy... Next up is to continue piecing together my sound system... a few months ago I won a Sony HU on an auction for half price... yay so a buddy suggested some Hertz speakers so I went middle of the road because.. well who hears a radio over a full song rotary.. haha and a Polk 4 channel to run the fronts as it is small and powerful... A buddy I met thru a friend of the guy who painted my bay.. gave me a bunch of parts so far from his collection... full urethane rear bushing kit, and a new 12"sub and amp to run it and a capacitor... yes gave me... thats about $600 worth of stuff.. but I gave him a lawn mower that I upgraded from cause it would stop running... it was a $1500 lawn tractor when we got it... was still about 90% condition.. had sat for 2 years, he got it running hahahah but it is so much fun horse trading.. the 1st gen rx7 group is a small collection and he tells me they all help out... already have a guy giving my an almost mint fuel tank (impossible to find and worth $800 if you can) if I help build his exhaust system.... Same guy who gave me the sepakers tuff is hooking me up with tires as he runs a Firestone... basically getting my some Potenza RE-71R for $590 installed... (customer price - $793.06) So things are falling together... may have to track down some sport recliners.. may just go ebay specials as my stock ones are brown, though almost mint, I am changing everything to black... Get the tires this week then we can sit it on the ground and roll the fenders etc to see if the tires will fit (if not the rears will go down in size or rears will be cut and stretched to fit)
Tires are on.. body work to get them fitting right is next... also lost a brake shim.. couldnt find them online.. whats a guy to do.. oh yeah draw it up and waterjet it out at work..
dropped the coilovers down a little and sat it down on the tires again... still have about 1.5inches of adjustment down left... but the rear will need massaging...
spent some time on the rear tire fitment with a mate... rolled the lips and then stretched them out a little.. kept the factory lines very clean and barely any rippling at all...
nope... its called coilovers and adjustable shocks.. **** aint gonna move much once its adjusted right...
If that is the desired ride height, you might as well just weld everything up solid in the rear since you have virtually no room for any compression whatsoever. But maybe I don't understand coilover suspension geometry.
it isnt the final height.. its set LOW and then we rolled fenders and stretched so at a low setting when teh geometry rolls side to side and up and down it should have some clearance.. its a solid rear axle.. if it isnt rubbing now its not going to change.. ie hence why we put it thru a range of MOTION.. either way eventually we will find out.. if it rubs... stretch more.. haha or go smaller tires..
done some small tinkering the last week... said to myself.. screw it and modified the intercooler to fit... saved trying to sell then buy a new one... also due to a mate having a wife who makes plans for him when he had plans to come over so I could build his exhaust... well I decided screw it instead I will use my car as the guinea pig (we were building the same setup only mine is bigger of course ) not 100% finished or happy with it.. but it will do for the first try... have to wait and see how it all holds up to the rotor... they eat systems apparently...
Tire storage space ftw! lol Looking good brother! I like the angle that the front mount mounts at. Looks like it will get good air flow!
part of the job.. on your own time your own materials... mostly magnaflow.. and of course after I buy it I find all the posts about mf arent great for rotors, they burn up quick.. hahaha oh well.. first mazda exhaust Ive built..
why did I use them or why do they burn up...?? why did I use mf? I built a bunch of subaru exhaust years back and always used the mf mufflers and LOVED the sound and they lasted well.... why do they burn up quickly? I believe its the light material they use inside... they say they use a fiberglass packing now so we will see... one reason why they burn up is rotors are notorious for this...
This is what I was wondering, and can definitely see why. I'm not very knowledgeable on the rotors. Thanks.
thats a tiny one... there are a lot more vids out there with not just flames but Flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaames
I should come and update this some time... but.. that takes time... not a lot has happened overall.. hope to have the fuel system worked out and wiring within the month and maybe it will start up hahha... then the rest will happen... till then not much has changed from the pic above
the build is at a very slow pace right now as I am waiting on mates to finish the wiring as they have time.. I suck at wiring... so in my boredom I did this... hope it spits flames.... hahaha https://imgur.com/gallery/2medx9M/comment/1349059619
not much happening lately on the build... for a little inspiration I put the wheels on and pushed it outside..
Can't wait to see this running, Nate. Hope you're enjoying the journey in whatever free time you can find
