I was told it was a line from a turbo legacy. But I'm really not sure. I got it for free from a guy on BBS. I might just try and do a braided stainless line.

But I could definitely use some pointers. I don't know if I should try and squeeze a 90 degree elbow in there or go under the intake manifold??

I went the route of 90 degree elbow I bought a 2 to 2.25 inch 90 degree silicone hose from silicone intakes. I had to cut the 90 to make it work but it barly fits with the manifold on. I know there is a lot of issues with trying to find a intake manifold that would work on the ej22t heads since they are phase 1 head and the bolt pattern is different from say a intake off a wrx. Plus you might have a issue with hood clearance issues like some of the first gen legacy guys had. What are your plans for intercooling?

Yeah, my original plan was to go with the 90 degree silicone hose. I will pick one up soon so I can start mocking it up and moving **** out if the way to make space for it.

I'm planning on using an 04 FXT intercooler. I will probably need a silicone Y pipe as well I'm assuming.

Yeah idk how much more room you have but I know the fxt intercooler was my only option that would fit. As for piping I went with a silicone y piping. I would say away from the ebay kits or cheaper kits as they don't fit correctly and will end up leaking on you. With the y pipe kit you will still have to modify it to make it work the turbo and have to cut and line it up several times to make sure it lights up right. There are a few more issues that will need addressing the wrx bypass valve wont work unless you know some one that could make a spacer since it will interfere with the throttle linkage. Idk if a new lgt bpv would work though I know they are a little different then the wrx bpv. Another thing that you would have to do is reroute the pcv lines on the engine. The main block pcv outlet will interfere with the intercooler piping and you would have to get creative on how to route the lines so you make room for the piping its a lot of fab work the get every thing working I would recommend adding the aos kit from grimmspeed helps keep the intake track cleaner

Alright. I will order up a silicone y pipe ASAP. And I think ive got a solution for the BPV already that I made at work.

As far as the PVC lines go I have a rough idea of what I'm going to do. But like you said, theres a lot of fabbing to do so its really going to depend on what I can fit and where I can fit it.

Another clarifying question for water return and water supply to the turbo:

For the supply I can just use some small coolant hose from the nipple on the head to the top nipple on the turbo. Right?
(from the red circled top port on the TD04 to the nipple on the head for supply)

(indicated nipple on EJ22t head. Just for clarity)
    upload_2014-11-24_14-6-55.png

But for the return can I just T into the IACV coolant line? I don't need to run a coolant reservoir, do I?

In the aspect of coolant line I just used the stock vf11 coolant pipes at the turbo bolt right on and used the same coolant line routing as the factory turbo. So yes take the feed from the head and return back to the resivior. My resivior I had to rotate 90 to get the intercooler to fit which can be done but I would recommend adding in 90 degree elbows in the lines to prevent what happend to me and having the lines rip and dump coolant every where

    Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

I ordered up that Kinugawa oil line as well as a new wastegate actuator from Kinugawa with a 5 PSI spring. I kinda ordered it on a whim but I think it will work great.

I will be ordering the timing belt, a few more grimmspeed gaskets, and some silicone elbows on friday or saturday. I feel like I'm getting closer!!

Just ordered clutch (EXEDY KSB04) and a Gates timing belt kit.

Ive got all the intercooler piping I need in my shopping cart waiting on some test filament for checkout.

Had to delay heading to grimmspeed due to their move. I will stop by after work tomorrow.

I got some goodies in the mail today
    [IMG]

I got the wastegate the oil line on the turbo but the T fitting had the wrong threads for the EJ22T head.

I will order a -4 AN to 12X1.25 adapter and hopefully have oil to the turbo sorted. Then install the up-pipe to turbo gasket and finally work out some filament issues.

Just decided to return the oil line. It's unbelievably simple so I will just send it back and make my own with the proper fittings/better.

I might run a different intercooler too even tho I just picked up a FXT one... hmm..

If you're running those psi's, wouldn't an FXT IC be plenty big?

Yeah, FXT is definitely big enough, It's just a tough fit because the throttle body linkages on the EJ22 are so big.

I might have a line on a "slanty" JDM ver 1/2 wrx intercooler which will fit with no modifications.

It seems the ever illusive JDM "slanty" intercooler is much harder to come by than I thought. Some guy was asking 225 dollars! And that wasnt even for the STI one! Sheesh...

I think I will stick with the FTX cooler for now and try to figure out some kinda work around for the throttle linkages and put my engineering skills to the test. Haha.

In other new... Clutch and timing belt showed up today. I'm about to throw the belt on right now!

I was curious so checked out eBay...found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-impr...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35ddd050b7

Looks like he has 6 of them? From the UK, of course. They seem awfully cheap, so shipping is probably outrageous. Doesn't specify if it comes with the charge pipe or elbow either though. Might be worth looking into!

Got the timing belt on. Im preeeeety sure it right. But not positive... It might be a tooth off but Its cold and the garage is dark so i'm going to look it over in the morning. There were 44 teeth on the left hand side and 40.5 on the right. I believe thats correct.

I will post a better picture tomorrow.

Pulled the oil pan and laid down some fresh RTV on it. I also pulled the intake manifold because I ordered some grimmspeed phenolic spacers

I idiotically dripped power steering fluid on my new T belt. wasn't to happy about that..

Picking up a new oil separator plate on tuesday and the the flywheel and clutch will be going in.

Just picked up an OEM oil cooler of Ebay for dirt cheap.

I'm waiting on many parts in the mail. I think I'm going to start pulling the engine out of the Legacy tomorrow afternoon once I awake from my post finals hangover slumber.

Nice build! Can't wait to see this thing run.

Also on the red RTV, that's pretty much what I've used for anything exhaust related. Recently (through a shop I trust very much) they recommended using Hondabond. They said it's hard to get a Honda dealer to sell it you for some reason, but amazon didn't give me any problems :) I guess it's like Red RTV but actually bonds a bit better as well. I have yet to use it, but they used it on my Evo X's exhaust manifold and it seems to work!

But hmm... I will consider some red RVT on those exhaust joints. I want to see if they leak first

Before I scrapped the shell I wanted to get a few odds and ends off, one of which was the passenger side rear wheel bearing.

Got all the bolts off but 2. Then a nice grade 10 19mm bolt decided to rip in half. I was pretty pissed..

After abandoning that endeavor, the tow truck showed up and we slid her up onto the bed and off she went!

I'm going to clean up the garage a bit and pull the Legacy in and get to work!

Took Leslie the lesbian Legacy for one last naturally aspirated drive to warm up the oil and trans fluid before draining the fluids.

Clocked 0 to 60 time on highway 280. 25 seconds flat. Basically lightspeed.

I should have that icky N/A engine out by tomorrow evening!

The bay is nice and dirty. I will grab some degreaser and maybe even the powersprayer if its warm enough and clean things up a bit.

I'm going to swap intake manifolds because there are some subtle but definite differences between the Impreza one and the Legacy one. I'll also be throwing the phenolic spacers on too :D

Got a new oil line installed with the proper banjo bolts
    [IMG]

My new center timing cover also came in the mail. While installing it cracked slightly :censored: I just put a little dab of RTV on it to keep it sealed. Also got the crank pulley and the belt back on.

Oil cooler came in the mail. It was missing the silicone gasket that goes between the cooler and the block which is a real pain because I was hoping to drop the engine in tonight..

I was really hoping to get the engine in before christmas but I don't think thats going to happen. Just to busy with christmas stuff and getting ready to leave for California on the 26th. Probably wont be posting any updates until I get back from cali.

    Happy holidays MNSubaru!

Back from Cali! Gosh does Minnesota suck... I saw more sick subies and motorcycles in 3 weeks than I see all year in MN..

I got the oil cooler gasket while I was away. Last night I torqued down the cooler and picked up some Rotella T5 and a cheap Microguard filter.
I will change the oil at 1K miles as a sorta "break in" period.

I found out while on vacation in Cali that I failed one of my classes and I'm getting suspended from the U of M. Not super sure how I feel about that yet, but I will have lots of time to wrench and finish this build! haha

Lots of time in the garage today

I installed my Group N mount, courtesy of @phi11
    [IMG]
Also installed some new Kartboy shifter bushings and filled up the trans with some fresh gear oil. The trans mount in conjunction with the bushings has completely changed the shifter feel. The gears are easier to find and shift into and there is a lot less play in the shifter. I also cleaned up the trans a bit. Nothing too crazy, just cleaned out all the old chunks of clutch/dirt/oil.

Im going to run to the store and grab a few things, then get working on the engine :brb:

Then couldn't find my new intakes manifold gaskets. And it turns out, no local auto parts stores carry Subaru intake manifold gaskets and the dealer is closed.

Ordering them online tonight.. Might take Monday off of work to wrench. Haha

Took a half day at work and got the new intake manifold gaskets, grimmspeed phenolic spacers, 95' intake manifold, and EJ22T pink top injectors installed.

I'm going to mark the subframe for cutting and possibly cut it tonight if everything looks good. Once I get that done and get coolant to and from the turbo the engine will be going in. Probably going to take another half day at work tomorrow because its supposed to be really nice out again.

    Pics coming later tonight.

    The engine is in!

I cut the subframe and figured I might as well see if the uppipe fit. It does! Perfectly! Then I figured I might as well bolt the engine to the trans. and plug in all sensors. I got a bit carried away and didn't even realize it was midnight!

I'm to tired to **** around on Imgur to post pictures. I will tomorrow.

You can see the line next to the actual hole. It was a misscut :p a little to close to the sway bar mount for my liking so I stopped cutting half way up and cut a bit further right. Im going to have my pal Jesse weld a little steel brace I made at work in there. Its crude but strong. I'll do that as soon as I get her running.

Spent yesterday and today routing/installing coolant lines, PCV, crank vents, wiring, etc. Also worked out how i'm going to tackle the intake system and I should have all the parts ASAP because I ordered the last few on amazon, with prime shipping of course. They should be here early next week.

I sold the Legacy GT Limited I had been driving around last week. Biking to work is COLD. I'm trying to get this thing up and running soon.

Parts are taking FOREVER to get here. I am so impatient. I check the tracking like 5 times a day. haha.

I ordered a silicone Y pipe for my forester intercooler, a silicone coupler for TB to TMIC, a silicone 90 for the TDO4 inlet, and a silicone 45 for fabbing up the intake system.

Today at work I'm going to spend my lunch hour in the machine shop building a BPV adapter plate.
