i have been reading up a little bit, everyone says redline 75w90 is a great way to go but from map its 11.50 a qt, extra s is $12 i can get extra S a bit cheaper than $12 so what do you think is the best route to go

my car has 149k almost all my driving is long highway travel and i dont frequently grind in any gears, occasionally its somewhat of a hard shift into 3rd but other then that not one grind

    any opinions?

extra s. redline has very mixed reviews (leaning toward poor on iwsti). cannot go wrong with factory

they are both full synthetic correct? i have heard somewhere that full synthetic is kind of bad for an older transmission because its thinner and maybe doesnt have the proper viscosity of a conventional oil(kinda talking out my ass and making false assumptions now)?

decided on the extra sss. however, i am only picking up 4 qt's so i might have to mix it with something to get the extra amount i need. (doing dif too.)

what should i mix it with? or should i just grab another qt

I think you should just pick up a qt of some other fluid for the diff - they (from what I read) are far less picky about fluid.

No complaints - but I don't have much basis for comparison.

It never seemed too thick during the winter (though I remote start, so that whips up the fluid a bit, I'm sure).

Also, more than one experienced Subaru person - including the previous owner of the tranny - was surprised at how smooth it shifted.

I'm probably going on 15k miles or so, and it seems fine yet.

But ... all that said - I have 4 qts of Extra-S in the closet for the new(used) 5MT that's going in.

Also, I think I have smurf-blood in my rear diff - was already newly filled when I got it, so I didn't change.
