The first signs of this problem started about a month ago. When I would roll up my passenger window and drivers window at the same time and I was pushing too hard on the buttons the drivers window would stop rolling up I would the have to ease up on the pressure in order to get it to work again. This rainy hard starting issue took affect as well when the weathergot warm however I flthink we've got that figured out, its the egr valve (can't remember what its called), or something. It is thought t he unrelated to the electrical system. Last night I started my car and it fired up normal as usual I was letting it warm up and after about 20 or so seconds the rpms suddenly surged to 3k for about 5 seconds for absolutely no reason. Thought that was a little weird so I hit the gas peddle and got the rpms hack to normal it drove home fine on the highway home for 45 minutes. The morning I went to start my car and it was dead. There was no lights left on and I parked and locked the car like usual last night. I jumped it this morning and it ran fine when I was driving I would push the clutch in and my car would almost die the lights would flicker and the speedometer needle would bounce and flicker as well. On the highway to work I put the clutch and and shut off my car. I tried to start it again and I got nothing so I slipped the clutch and got m car running again. My car ran and kind of spuddered after that for a while but I think because it was missfiring. Pulling off on see roads my car when coming to a top with the clutch I. Acted like it wanted to die and did the same thing it did before the highway trip. I shuttle car off when I pulled into work and locked it it usually beeps twice, the first beep sounded and the second died off before it was done which leads I'd to believe that my battery is yet again dead. My ideas would be hat its an alternator or maybe battery cables Modifications possibly effecting this issue are DIY grounding kit I've had on for almost a year without any trouble. A new 95 96 intake tube the vaccium lines don't quite match up but it hasn't given me any problems for about a eel two weeks be usually those kinds of mods will give you problems imediately Sorry for all the misspelled words I'm on my itouch at work with slow Internet
How old is your battery? judging by the fact that your battery light isnt on (that would mean alternator almost always) and it doesnt seem to want to charge, you probably need a battery.
Yeah definetly sounds like a battery or alternator issue. I would stop by interstate battery and have them check it out. Its free so no biggie, then if you need a battery you are at the right place. I just had small issue with my radio shutting off and when i'd turn the headlight on the whole car would die. I thought it was my alternator but I went to interstate and they said it was probably just from some of the corrosion on the + terminal. It wasn't making a great connection. Also if your car was dead this morning thats another +1 for a shot battery.
how does a battery just die like that though? Wouldn't you see symptoms of a dying battery earlier on that slowly progress?
They do it all the time, exp in this heat, one day they work, the next day baam. Nothing. Put it on a charger and see if it holds a charge.
yea I'll try a battery. It willbbe cheaper and easier than an alternator. How do you explain the rpm surge though?
I'd jump on the battery bandwagon. My first redtop did that suddenly and bit the dust, luckily it was still warrantied and I got a new one for free. RPM surge could be low input on sensors even due to lack of power, or the alternator could be trying to over work?
Yeah - crapped battery can cause haywire with the electrical causing all sorts of weird **** like surging rpms. Also, I got a cheap used alt. if you end up needing one. Pretty sure it would fit your car, and it would be easy to check.
My voltage regulator took a dump in my alt and made the idle go up and down and the lights flicker earlier this year, I almost forgot, LOL, a new alt cured it, but the battery never went dead.
Which battery would you guys pick as the best for under $100. I need this guy by tonight and only have an hour window to do so. However, if there is a battery someplace i cant get to tonight that is too good to be true, Ill wait a day. I'm in south Edina north Bloomington for the rest of the night. any reputible (spelling?) battery places around here?

My stock battery took a poop on me last spring after all winter on cold starts and normal usage, one day I drove it and everything was fine/normal then I got back in the car and tried to start it and nothing. It was dead but took a charge, I still replaced it anyway.
twas thy battery. i was thinking of a paragraph to say on the way home from school this evening, but i cant remember my plan. so, i went to autozone today after work and i took the battery out. they tested it and it came back as a bad battery, my alternator is still the original and thats what was throwing me for a loop, too. i took my chances with the battery and so far everything has been working out fine, when i was pulling into autozone my car was whinning and my electrical system was going bazerk. i would have put any amount of money on those symptoms not being battery related, but then again ive never had an issue with any batteries in any of my 4 cars, two of which have been subies(definately didnt know a faulty battery could make a car do such funny things). i ended up with a duralast battery for $85 the one with the red top, if i remember i will update this thread in a few months to maybe a year and tell you how the duralast brand battery is doing incase others were wondering. thanks to all who helped (and i better not wake up tomorrow to find out my ****ing alternator took a **** on me, im going to chicago this weekend!!)! oh, and btw - my battery had'nt been changed since 3/03 :laugh:
