I love the blue gauges... Highly recomended to any one... the price is well worth it. There is quite a bit of meticulous labor involved. P.S. those are my blue gauges.. they look so much better in person (both colors)
I want this color throughout my car.... Can you get this light color for me? It's the bmw amber color I was talking about.
That looks an aweful lot like my red gauges. You should have a look at them first. I'm pretty sure that is do-able.
Lee... i think that if you get those amber LEDS that they would prolly be close enough... That pics is a horrible representation of the actual color. You will have to look at a BMW in person. That pics looks exactly like the red in Lees car.
It used tour stock light bulbs with blue filters... then he adds an LED strip (what ever color you choose) As far as i know, there is no danger to your cars dash other then taking it apart. I witnessed the whole thing and Lee can correct me if im wrong but it is safe and looks great.
I don't use bulb filters, but I do recommend replacing all the bulbs while we're in there. I don't modify the lighting in any way, aside from removing bulb filters. The system I use uses an LED circuit that is powered by the dimmer wires, which will control the lighting intensity of the cluster entirely. As for damage, I haven't had any issues with my current setup in the last couple of months. Nothing is broken, all my gauges still work just fine, and my lights all still work (and I did not replace any old bulbs). One thing to take note of, if it will matter to you, is that your trip meter will reset to 0, but your odometer will save your mileage. As for a blue radio, I'm still working on that. It seems like Subaru soldered bulbs on the PCB, and in order to do blue, would require de-soldering those and soldering in LED's in their place. I may or may not do it, but I'll need to look into it more. (This is the original procedure that inspired me. I would like to believe that I've found a much better way of doing it, however. For now, it is a trade secret though )
The HVAC "problem" can be solved with some of these, I believe. Old sic-o is going to confirm that for me though.
There, I fixed their dead link. They'd better not do that again or I'll piss and moan about it.
Maybe this way? LED bulbs: Using these for the Odo and HVAC. Gotta play with them to make sure I like them, first.
Bump for updated pictures. Also, if anyone wants the gauges/dash done, I will need time to order more materials.
I still haven't pulled my radio apart to see what is involved in that. I haven't even seen any references to anyone who has done a stereo in anything but red.
U guys need to jump on this.... Dont live with that nasty booger green anymore... The color difference is amazing. I had lee do the blue and i love it and get lots of comments on it.
I took a look at my 02 radio a little closer last night and I won't be doing blue. I'm going to try experimenting with a few things, but it doesn't look promising. The lights are permanently soldered to the PC board inside, and I don't want to mess with those. Apologies to anyone who had hopes up, but Subaru just made it too difficult.
Yea... but you wont get the blue you are after. Unless you want teal, bulb condoms are not the way to go. After market headunit FTW.
Oh, i used red condoms on all of mine and they turned out awsome, but i can see how blue would be hard.
This is a really good point, and it comes to an issue with what sic_rex mentioned. Blue filters don't really make a true blue, whereas the red filters will work just fine. Realistically, one would have to re-solder all the bulbs with LEDs, and potentially all the resistors on the board for them too. It's a hassle, and the solder points are relatively small. By the way Fleck, your car is badass.
