Recently I have been experiencing some less than stellar gas mileage compared to the usual, as well as some new noises coming from my engine... This all recently began when I started hunting for cheaper gas in the EP area and started using PDQ where the gas is almost always cheaper by as much as $.20 a gallon for regular, and it is near my house. See prices here: http://www.twincitiesgasprices.com/index.aspx?area=Eden%20Prairie The noises sound like there is an R/C motor in my car when I accelerate. Not even hard accelerating, just going from 35 to 40 I can hear what sounds like an old VW beetle exhaust. I don't notice any kind of power loss at all, but I am worried after a bit of research that it could be knocking from poor quality fuel. My other concern, is that Morries told me I was leaking engine oil around my drain plug slowly. They said I wasn't at a low level, but it just had some leakage around it. I confirmed, oil level was fine afterwards as well. So really, does this sound like a fuel quality issue, oil issue, or other? If it is fuel, where do you all get gas? I know many of your are WRX/STi drivers that need premium, but I just want solid 87 octane regular fuel. P.S. This tank is about gone and I'll be refilling tonight, so any input on gas stations would be appreciated!
I am pretty sure he also has a 2005 RS. If that's the case, I usually go to BP, but I have no problem running holiday gas once in a while. Though now that I've put stuff onto my car, I go to bp more. I donno what it is, but their gas just seems to make the car run better. of course, this could all be in my head.
Try a tank of non oxy premium, see if your mileage goes up. Ethanol will tend to make you get less mpgs, maybe the gas PDQ gets is old ass winter grade fuel. Good regular can be found at mobile, shell, or BP. Though If you are having these issues, I doubt its fuel, as n/a SOHC 4 cyl subarus seem to be able to run on dog-water.
Any thoughts on what else I could be experiencing? I will try out a different brand fuel this evening... The holiday by my house carries Non-Oxy fuel according to the MSRA... http://www.msra.com/NonOxygenatedFuel/NonOxyListFeb2010.pdf
i had to sue PDQ for there crapy gas. when i got my bonneville i had the dealer i got it from but new o2 sensors/plugs/wire on the car. one tank of PDQ(first tank i but in the car) had foul out my pulgs/o2 sensors. try a tank of non oxy gas. had see if that chages your MPG your oil leak sounds like the drain plug crush washer. idk if ur car has one. but it sound like the same thing happend to me when i forgot to replace the crush washer. had a very slow leak around the plug.
Check this thread out, Tyler. It lists the 93 octane stations and where to find them, and most are BP's, which is what you want: http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?33630-Where-to-get-93-octane/page5
Thanks! I'll keep that thread bookmarked for future reference. My gas light flicked on my way home from work before I got to read this so I threw in 92 Octane Oxy-Free Fuel from Holiday. I'll see how that does and step it up for next time if need be.
If you search you'll see more then a few members, including myself, that posted logs showing the difference a good gas can make. For me I always had the best results with BP and Shell. Holiday and SA made my engine not so happy. I completely understand the wanting the cheapest gas possible. What I do is go to BP and use my Chase BP gas card to fill which saves you 5% off a gallon or about 14 cents right now. As long as you pay it off every month you'll never pay a cent of interest either.
this is true as i was in a pinch getting back from the cabin to a gas station about 50 miles away and had to use some mixed gas and my car took it no problem i ran sea foam and injector cleaner through it afterwards on a fresh tank of 91 with no problems at all
Also, you can use your Roundy's card for a discount at BP's. The more you shop at Rainbow, the more you get a discount on gas (can't remember how much though).
