So... I find myself with a wide open Saturday with no kids or wife around. Seems like a nice day to kill several hours in a WRX driving on fun roads. I've heard there are some fun drives on the Wisconsin side of the river. Any ideas?
Head over to Wisconsin through Prescott. Head south on Hwy 35. Great cruising road! Get to Alma and head up the hill to Buena Vista Park. Awesome road going up, and equally as awesome coming back down! https://g.co/kgs/3C13Ee
And if you really want to have fun, cross over the river down by Winona(I believe) and take 60 west back to 52 north to get home. https://www.google.com/maps/place/M...x87f41bc8ceee31d7:0xd3d0cd5a6bbf8453?hl=en-us
Yeah, MN60 is probably the best drive in a reasonable distance from the metro. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a9911275/most-beautiful-roads-highways-in-america/
Anyone is free to join! I have Prescott, alma, Buena Vista, Wabash and hwy 60 all mapped out. See you in five hours!
This thread made me want to look up some roads down there. You guys ever look at 16 coming out of La Crosse to the sw? On the MN side. Goes right next to the Root River and connects back to 52 at some point. Looks awesomely windy.
That looks like a fun drive as well! We've never gone that way to or from the cruise. Looks like a nice "extended" Sunday drive though for the trip back! Depending on what my status is when i head to LaCrosse, i may be down for that route home
That's kinda what I was thinking. I mentioned that little town called Lanesboro to the wife while showing her that route. Apparently it's a hot bed for bed and breakfast type places, so now she's pumped on staying there possibly Saturday night after the cruise. Sounds like a long day of curves is in store.
I'm already not a huge camping fan. Add a baby to the mix and no thanks. Sorry mang. Maybe you, me, and @silver03 can camp out in his backyard sometime instead.
I agree, this post took a turn. Hot mess comes to mind. I did the drive and it was great. Total of five hours. Started the fun driving through Afton them over to Prescott, then down hwy 35 to Alma. Lots of motorcycles along the way and fun little towns. The drive up to Buena Vista park was the highlight. Great windy road. Only downfall was several groups of motorcycles made it unsafe to really push the corners. Then back to the Minnesota side and highway 60 from Wabasha. Great way to kill a half day.
Sounds like the perfect day! Did you check out the view from the park down on the bluff? Also, for future reference, a little further up that road from the park is a winery called Danzinger. http://www.danzingervineyard.com/ The only reason that i know of these roads is because of my wife. We go on the Great River Wine Trail every now and then when we can! Great time, amazing drive, wine, and food! https://www.greatriverroadwinetrail.org/ Glad that you enjoyed yourself!
